This is such a conveniently located museum off of the mall (on F street) which makes it easy to pop in for an hour or less to view some wonderful portraits from centuries ago to the 20th century. Worth a visit for adults but kids will be bored.

My wife and I enjoyed this Museum because it is like looking back into our nation's vast history. Busts of past Presidents, generals, and tycoons of Industry just to mention a few. The Gallery is amazing!

Enjoyed this art gallery very much. This gallery had lots of different types of art divided into various areas. It has paintings, sculptures, and lots more. We strolled through most of the areas; although time did not permit us to see everything. It was pleasant and not overly crowded like many of the museums on the Mall. Also they have a very nice atrium area where it is nice to just chill. I did find the gift shop rather limited though.

I enjoyed both the Portrait Gallery and attached Museum of American Art. It's nice to have the two attached for variety. It's also handy that these museums are open a bit later than the ones down on the National Mall.

There is so much to see here - give yourself several hours. I'd always looked forward to the Presidential Portrait area, but found I enjoyed much more than that! You can see portraits of all sorts of figures from history that help bring those stories you learned in school back to life. And there are portraits right up to current time - many celebrities and sports figures too.
