There is so much to see that it's hard to take it all in in one visit. We especially enjoyed the modern art sculptures and exhibits. The portraits of the presidents were a must see. Beautiful sculptures and paintings throughout.

There were many good exhibits but I enjoyed seeing the portraits of all of the presidents and reading a little about them there...
The historical perspective was one that you rarely get a chance to witness. This is a huge museum and it was all that we were able to visit in one day...It is quite beautiful and that day, there was a dinner being held in the evening....It is quite grand. i wish that I had time to read the history of the building , apparantely it was used as a hospital during the civil war. Also, there are many portraits of Indians...worth a look

The National Portrait Gallery is conveniently located at the Gallery Place exit off of the red line metro. My favorite standing exhibit is the presidential hall where you can see the faces of all the presidents on display in large lovely painted portraits. It's like a walk through time. Great place!

Definitely visit the National Portrait Gallery - right across the street from the Verizon Center - when in DC. Great collection of portraits including the Presidents. Always interesting special exhibits. And don't miss the incredible glassed-in atrium in the center of the museum. One of the best places in DC to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine!

This gallery was amazing. Loved all the displays and the variety. The American Presidents display was really good, and I also liked the modern room that had works of LL Cool J, Marilyn, Michael Jackson and many others. Would highly recommend this. Also has a great atrium that is nice for reading or relaxing.
