Go -- just go. Contemporary collections, always something new to see. This is a great gallery. Love the portraits.

My favorite museum in Washington. And I generally don't like art museums. But this one is special. The notes on the paintings address not only the artist and the artwork, but also the life of the person portrayed -- so the art is all put in historic and social context. So you actually learn about the revolution, the civil war, the gilded age and so forth in terms of people who lived through it. The Art of Video Games exhibit was on when we were there. Well put together. President's Gallery is a must see. And they have an exhibit of patent models from when it was the patent office. The building itself is just beautiful - especially the courtyard. Friendly and helpful staff.

Enjoyed the portraits of the early presidents the most. The galleries are grand. Many floors, much to see. There are other exhibits besides portraits. Many sculptures. Some landscapes of beautiful American locations from yesteryear. Chinatown restaurants are nearly across the street. We ate at Gordon Biersch across the street, and it was good.

and well curated space that not only showcases american art from founding fathers, but also brings in interesting shows as well. I love that they cover modern art as well- it gives the overall collection a lot of depth.

I was lucky enough to visit this museum when they had the Hip Hop artists exhibit. Since I am a fan of old school hip hop, I was delighted to see portraits of Biggie, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane and others which was Very dope.
