With all the sights to see in Washington DC, the Monuments by Moonlight tour is an excellent way to see many of the primary monuments, and enjoy them in their evening lit state. The Korean Memorial is best enjoyed lit in the evening, for example. Our trolley tour stopped for foot exploration of the Marine Memorial/Iwo Jima, Jefferson Memorial, and Viet Nam/Korean/Lincoln Memorials. It stopped for photos, without getting off the trolley, at the Capitol, Supreme Court, WWII Memorial and others. The driver was very knowledgeable and provided some unique trivia and insights into the history of the sights. A very efficient way to see significant points of interest that are hard otherwise to take in only on foot.

My family and I used Old Town Trolley of Washington DC Oct. 21, 2007. Our trouble started attempting to reboard after getting off at our first stop, Jefferson Memorial. We waited with two other couples for about half an hour when a trolley came by with only enough room for two people. We then waited with the other couple for an additional 20 minutes before the next trolley came by. We ended up waiting 50 minutes at one stop! We had trouble again at the National Cathedral. We waited for another 50 minutes and by the time the trolley did come we had to leave eight people behind because lack of room. We had wasted so much of our day waiting that we didn't have time to see all the sites we wanted to see. I would advise using another tour operator that doesn't overbook.

This past Saturday, 9/22/07 I was in Washington DC with my parents and we took an Old Town Trolley tour that we purchased online. We were told the trolleys would come around approximately every 1/2 hour, which they did. The problem was they were all full! On our first try to re-board we were told to wait another 1/2 hour, and then when the next trolley came around there was only room for the four people that were ahead of us, we were told to wait again! At this point we took a cab to the Air & Space Museum since we didn't want to miss it. After that we waited for the next trolley to continue the tour on the orange line loop. There were probably 20 people in line and only room for 5 people on the next trolley to come by. Since we were at the front of this line we managed to find 3 seats all in different areas of the trolley. We were squeezed in like sardines.Worst part of all was we were then afraid to get off at any of the remaining stops for fear of not being able to re-board later since every stop we came to had lines of (angry) people wanting to re-board our trolley which was full.
We left DC the next morning feeling our only opportunity to see the sights had been ruined by a tour company that over sold tickets for the capacity of available trolleys. I requested a refund for the tour and reimbursement for the cab fare. Trusted Tours did refund the tour price but not the taxi fare we incurred.
If you want to see DC I suggest taking the bike tour (excellent) or walking. If your group is not up for that much activity at least try another tour company.
DC is a wonderful city with too many things to miss waiting for an overbooked trolley!

Trolleys are a great way to get around town while touring with grandparents. We especially enjoyed the "Monuments by Moonlight" tour.

This was my second time on the Old Town Trolley Tour in Washington. Taking a hop on hop off tour is definately the best way to see all the important sites in Washington when you're on a tight schedule. We were only in DC for a day and, unfortunately, we were unable to see everything we wanted to see. This particular tour only runs from 10AM - 5PM, which I think is ridiculous during the summer months. However, the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and the wait time for trolleys was short.
