“What is not excellent about this Mall.”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Every visit, I come here. I walk from one end to the other; last time I also walked back. There is so much history here, so many memories being made. So much to relearn. I often feel cheated by living so far away from all of our grounding history in this country. So I soak up as much as possible when I hit the East Coast.

Friendly people, friendly and informative police officers, building workers, suits, and locals.

“Busy P[ace”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

When I was there it was a really busy place with people. It was a nice to walk the Mall and to see the capital on the at was nice. You hear the sirens when the President leaves the White House. It a nice place to reflex watch history you know. You can also watch people there. It is very nice too....

“Breathtaking.....”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The National Mall was breathtaking. From the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol, we walked the entire length of the Mall during our stay in Washington. It was beautiful and gave us such an amazing view of the city. It was easy to access the museums and Smithsonian Institutions from our vantage point of the Mall as well. Thinking about all of the movies made featuring footage from both ends of the Mall made it all the more fun!

“Under Consruction”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

The Mall was under construction everywhere! The turf was being repaired and the Reflection Pool was empty. To just be there and remembering all the marches and protest that happened here made it worthwhile.

“not to be missed”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

The National Mall is, of course, the unifying factor of so many famous places in Washington. It's a great walk all along the mall. We went during the government shutdown, and locals tell us that it has become a ghost town, which is understandable.
I suggest that you have a map as you walk. You'll wonder what lots of the buildings are, and you need a map to figure them all out.
The mall itself is a straight shot from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. In between are the Washington Monument (covered with scaffolding these days), a reflecting pool to show the Monument from a different perspective, and several memorials (Korean War, WWII, and a 15-20 minute walk to the side, the Vietnam Memorial).
It's a relaxing walk.
Behind the Capitol is the Supreme Court building, and to the side is the Smithsonian. Lots of famous places, which a map will clarify.
A beautiful walk, a beautiful time.
(Perpendicular to the straight "line" between the Capitol and Lincoln Memorial is the White House, going 90 degrees up from the Washington Monument. But the White House isn't visible from the Mall.)
It's wonderful, and doesn't cost a dime!
