“Sad what this has become”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

The National Mall is choked with "crowd control" and "security" fencing, never-ending construction projects, ugly tents for "festivals", temporary buildings, smelly and noisy tour buses. Pretty sad what this has nearly completely lost the grandeur and dignity it once had. It really needs to be returned to a dignified outdoor space. The July 4 fireworks, though, were very impressive from the National Mall, and despite the crowds, are well-worth seeing.

“Great fireworks and Orchestra”

Went for the fireworks and also the National Symphony Concert before hand. Both were outstanding! Definitely do this at least once.

“Impressive amount of green space but unimpressive in other areas.”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We spent the 4th of July holiday in the Washington DC area. On the 4th of July we went to the Washington Mall in hopes of finding some entertainment and fun. We arrived in the late afternoon and first walked through the sculpture garden and fountain area right off of the National Mall. This area was nice and there were a lot of people enjoying the fountain area. As we continued to walk on the trail on the National Mall we were a little disappointed...it was the 4th of July and the only entertainment was either a christian religious group or down the way a alternative religious group. The christian group had loud annoying christian music that was a real turn off. It's the 4th of July not a religious festival. I was a little surprised that there was NO 4th of July entertainment or activities on the National Mall. The country was founded on religious freedom and having to listen to this christian music even blocks away is not religious freedom or anything that I relate to the 4th of July. There was also people handing out religious prayers again not impressive.

Also as a another person mentioned recently there is always construction on the National Mall. We visit Washington DC often and there is always construction somewhere on the Mall, it ruins the atmosphere of the experience.

The National Mall is an impressive amount of space even with the religious groups and construction. We really noticed over the last couple years they seem to be maintaining the grass better and it has a nice green appearance, what grass should look like.

“Always construction going on”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

When we were there, there was construction going on but I'm sure that's never ending. Milking money that should go to the schools. It's just a great big lawn. The pool was drained. You just look at it as you pass by on a bus.
