I loved the tunnel connecting the old and new wings, also the gift shop where we dropped quite a few clams on really excellent products.

There is so much here that you will probably find quite a bit that is interesting. Plus it is free and uncrowded. I love Impressionist paintings and the collection was the highlight of the visit for me. The restaurant in the concourse between the East and West building has decent museum food. You could probably spend a day or two here but definitely allow at least 2-3 hours.

What a beautiful museum! Such beauty surroundings and incredible art. There are many rooms filled with famous pieces of art and couch seating available for those seeking a rest or for those who wish to be near a beautiful piece just a bit longer.
Impressionism is my favorite and there are pieces by Degas, Renoir, Monet and others. There were classic Italian pieces and sculptures.
This is a lovely, quiet, rejuvenation of the body and spirit stop that you don't want to miss.

Get the free audio tours-- there's a great kid version too. All around awesome! Best to spend all day or a couple days, but they do have a handout for "if you only have an hour" you can use.
One down side-- the guards are rude, as others have mentioned. At the end of the day they shooed us to the nearest exit without warning, which meant a long walk around the building. Stay 6 inches away, don't gesture with anything in your hand (these rules aren't posted anywhere, you just get yelled at) However, the information desks have very nice, helpful people.

yes, there is art and lots of it. I like the cafeteria below street level. it is not usually crowded. and more importantly, I love to shop at this museum, especially the jewelry. I know that sounds strange but the museum shop jewelry is reasonably priced and they always have wonderful pieces.
