Owner description: One of the world's greatest art museums is comprised of two buildings: one holds paintings from the 13th through the 18th centuries and the other exhibits modern art.

The Gallery is absolutely beautiful. If you'd like to take a picture with a nice backdrop, the fountain and flower garden on the second floor is breathtaking.

I enjoyed the varied selection of art, from the classics to the not so classic. There is a varied selection of Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, etc which is great if you are trying to teach your children or if you just enjoy viewing art. There are benches to sit in the rooms to quietly sketch or enjoy the pieces. There are also brochures to tell you about the exhibits and their locations in the Gallery. It is huge, with East and West buildings. Enjoy!

The collection is varied and large. Pick up a guide and decide what you want to see unless you have an entire day to dedicate to the gallery.

The latest exhibit, showing the 15th century siege of two seaside Moroccan fiefdoms, featured 2 rooms of gargantuan, exquisite woven Spanish tapestries depicting aspects of the long time struggles between Iberian powers and Moorish mini-states, While planning a trip to Washington, be sure to check the websites for special exhibits at the Gallery, as well as at the American History, Library of Congress and Folger Library, National Archives if you wish to view exhibits along historical themes. They're all free, so you can even return for a second look at a quieter time if you find it too crowded. The Shopping at the Gallery is great for gifts & souvenirs too.

One of the great art galleries in the world. You can spend a full day here. Eat in the Cafeteria (a bit expensive) but allows you to rest and recharge as you see the unbelievable collection.

Okay, so I'm a sucker for art museums and probably never gave one a bad rating. I liked the paintings here and since it is connected with the portrait gallery, you are really getting two museums in one. One caution: it doesn't open till 11 AM. Don't be like me. Sleep in or plan someplace to go before it opens. (Hint: We went to Fords theater which was very close).
