This museum is quite different from most. It houses a huge variety of sculptures that can definitely pick your brain!

The Hirshhorn Museum is one that I had never visited despite many trips to Washington DC. I made it a point to check it out during a recent trip and I was quite glad that I did. The exhibition spaces were large and the works therein where of great interest. Each floor had a few pieces that were truly unique and I greatly enjoyed my time here.

I also visited the National Gallery of Art's modern art wing on the same day, and the Hirshhorn Musuem was far more enjoyable. While the National Gallery had a lot of abstract art, the Hirshhorn had sculptures and interactive pieces that were far more compelling. The sculpture garden and basement gift shop were also full of interest. If you have some time to spend in Washington, don't miss a trip to this under-appreciated gem.

Great series of exhibits, both the permanent collection and the special galleries-just make sure to visit all the floors and the basement.

the Hirshhorn is a fantastic place central to the other museums in DC, convenient to metro but HARD to find parking close by. Beautiful interior with an impressive open area that houses very large works which are ringed by several levels of displays. the exhibits are kept fresh and special events are common place! Down stairs they have multiple theater style rooms where seminars and special events are held! This is a cool bonus as the events are frequent and vary greatly so there is always something interesting and new going on.

From the imposing not quite doughnut structure to the wonder of ending at the begginings of its circular layout, to the quirkiness of its gadget (for the serious) and theory (for the not so serious) filled shop, this is one of my first destinations in any spare time when visiting DC. Always interesting special exhibitions - the first I saw there was Louise Bourgeouis retrospective that is one of the most compelling exhibitions anywhere in the world, and apermanent collection that is kind to repeated viewing. And good fun for anyone.
