“Interesting collection”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

This is a very beautiful building/castle. There are interesting artifacts in the gallery such as dehydrated bacon bars from Apollo 11 flight mission July 1969 and etc. They offer free wireless internet in the lobby. You can also see James Smithson's crypt in this building.

“The gate to the Smithsonian Museums”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

When visiting the Smithsonian Museums, the biggest complex of museums in the entire world, start here!
The Smithsonian Castle is a very nice building that houses the complex information center as well as some administrative offices. Next to the information center is located a shopping area that offers quality goods related to the museums and the Capital City and restroom facilities.
One of the wings offers some seats to relax before starting the rally to the 9 museums the Smithsonian Institution manages in the National Mall of Washington DC.

“Stare at a bit of Americana--and know part of your history is inside”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

Only in America...and maybe Transylvania, Ireland, ancient duchies, et cetera, would you find this eccentric institution occupying prime real estate in the nation's capital...and earning every square inch of it.

Sure, it is confusing, and there are really multiple museums. If you want simple and spectacular, go the Air & Space; if you want dusty and secret carrying, go to the places where the schoolkids and science project field trippers are not.

And when you go back home, tantalize your friends with an (almost) true story of what you found in a dark corridor!

A fantastic eclectic collection of random Items, but really interesting items. Only two medium sized rooms, so only a short visit needed. very peaceful compared to the other places on the mall.
