The real beauty of this monument is at night. The surrounding area gets pretty dark, but is safe. Definitely recommend taking an evening stroll by the monument and Lincoln Memorial!

Didn’t know you could go up the monument but was so pleased when told we could and that it was free.
Unfortunately for us when we went up the weather was awful so photos spoilt by rain drops but still pleased we went

I would thoroughly recommend coming up the top and doing the tour. You must book online for a nominal fee ($1). The staff are very helpful and friendly. There is tight security here. There are great views from the little windows of all the monuments and buildings around. You get the lift upto 500feet then walk down to 490feet before taking the lift back down again.

DC by night is often better than DC by day! Less crowded but still accessible. The view up close is great but best from the Lincoln Memorial to see it stand out over the pond with the Capitol behind it!

Tip: Parking can still be tough at night so easiest to Metro & walk in or take the DC Circulator!
