I would have rated it excellent if I could have gone up close and to the top floor and see far. But with it being damaged by the recent earthquake it is just an imposing and impressive obelisk tribute to our First and most likely greatest President, George Washington.

After the earthquake a couple of years ago, DC residents saw first hand the lengths the engineers needed to go to find out how damaged the monument had gotten--structural engineers were rappelling down the side of the monument to figure out what needed to be repaired. The monument is still closed but serves as a great landmark when walking around the Mall.

Whenever my parents were driving around DC, I always looked at the monument and wondered how high it was as well as I was mystified. :)

You will see this from Arlington and almost anywhere in DC. Great memorial. Love the way the memorials and structures line up. This one is the center piece.
