We went on the Monuments at Night Tour with Heidi last night. We used our AAA when we booked online for a discount. We all enjoyed it, and felt a little sorry for all of the people we rode by. We caught breezes as we rode, and saw the Washington Monument, the WW11 Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial (during a quick downpour, which made it feel even more meaningful and appropriate to me), the Lincoln Memorial (very very slippery when wet, saw two women fall come down the steps), the Korean Conflict Memorial, the MLK Memorial (loved the quotes and his facial expression), the FDR Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial.
We would have NEVER covered this much ground on foot, nor held my my kid's attention (ages 7 and 10) for that long. Heidi gave us a short (2-4 minute) introduction to each site, and then let us go explore it for ourselves. That was perfect for us, and the novelty of riding a tandem bike made my 7 year old especially enjoy the trip. There were plenty of stops with water fountains and restrooms, and Heidi gave us a bottle of water at the beginning and snacks mid-way through.
The sites were really beautiful at night and by the end, it was cooler and really pleasant. We went to Fro-yo on 10th and G afterwards and thought it was the perfect end to the night.
