Owner description: Make a splash in our Nation’s Capital aboard the DC Ducks, 1942 amphibious transport vehicles used to support and carry troops during World War II. Today they are a great way to see Washington by both land and sea. Winding our way first through the monuments, the Mall, the Capitol and museums of the Smithsonian before splashing into the Potomac and under the flight path at Reagan National Airport. Its fun for all ages!

We had 4 adults and 2 children in our group - this was one of the funnest things we did during our week in D.C. Our tour guide was funny and very knowledgable about the city's history and monuments. The tour covers a lot of ground in a short time … when we went into the river, he let some of the kids steer the boat and get pictures. The duck whistles are a riot!

I have been here before a few times now, and I love it! The boat ride is nice and informative. The guides are nice. Not sure if they do this anymore, but two or three years ago at the end of the trip they would give you this duck's beak so when you blow through it a quack sound comes out. I went a long time ago and they did it back then. I hope they still do it now!

Our party of four adults and a 14 year-old girl enjoyed our "duck tour" very much. Our captain made us very welcome and gave us all the information we needed as we went along, with gentle good humour blended in. The time spent on the Potomac was a highlight of course, and an excellent way to see the Pentagon. The price was also reasonable. Being a 70 year-old army amphibian, the vehicle is a bit rough and gives you a bumpy ride at times, but that was not a problem for us. My wife especially enjoyed the opportunity to drive the duck on the water for a couple of minutes and the photo opp that provided.

My son's and I took the tour while visiting DC in October and had a blast. Both the enthused 12- year-old and the jaded 15-year-old had a wonderful experience. The perspective is unique, the vehicle is fun and the corny joke are just right for families with young kids. We had toured the city on foot already, but the guide was still able to point out things we had missed. We enjoyed "Quack Attacking" other DUCK's during the rest of our visit, too!

Driving the DUCK in the river was unforgettable for the boys and really enhanced DC for them. After days of touring monuments and museums, take a break, give the kids some fun and hit the DUCK's!

“Duck tours” are becoming increasingly common. The WWII amphibious vehicles, fortuitously named DUKWs, have found a new lease of life in many paces where a town or city is next to water and visitors can benefit from both environments.

The DC tour is well worth taking. Starting at Union Station it crosses the scenic heart of the city before entering the water and going the Potomac to emerge on dry land on the other side of the river, and returning to base. You experience much that you won’t on a conventional tour, with different views and even a short time under the landing path for jets going into the busy Reagan Airport. The driver (“captain”) also serves as live guide and ours was informative and informal: the whole experience was so much more human than the crowded and formulaic open-top bus tours we also took.

This isn't a hop-on hop-off setup, it’s a ninety minute tour taking you back to your starting point. And it’s a tour worth taking.
