Owner description: Springtime in Washington means the explosion of white-pink clouds of cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin.

I have just been today, when the cherry trees are blossoming. Besides the number of people having a walk there, what a view! It is really beautiful, and you understand why there is so many people around. So, if you happen to be in Washington at the right time, do not miss the Tidal basin during cherry blossom. You will not regret it. One more suggestion: take a bike from the Capital Bikes bike sharing, I just loved going around cycling.

The National Mall is so huge that it is difficult to divide it into bite sized chunks. My suggestion for a day: Holocaust museum, Bureau of engraving and printing, and walking around the Tidal Basin to see the Jefferson, FDR, and MLK monuments. This is especially lovely when the cherry blossoms are in full swing. Why 4 vs 5 stars? The water was mucky and downright gross in some parts, the sidewalk was dirty in areas, and there was trash blowing about. If the area could be spruced up, it would be a 5 star walk. The walk around the tidal basin is a little over a mile and takes under an hour. Well worth it. Great view of the White House and Washington monument from the Jefferson memorial as well.

The tidal basin is a gorgeous walk from FDR Monument all of the way out to the Jefferson Memorial. I have seen it with Cherry Blossoms in full bloom (along with the other thousands taking the same walk at the same time!) and in the fall when the leaves are sparse, with hardly anyone around. Both experiences were equally as wonderful. It is a long walk, but definitely worth it!

Only being in Japan can top the beauty of the blossoming cherry trees during springtime in Washington, D.C. Parking in DC is always a challenge; try parking at an outlying Metro station and take the subway in. Wear good walking shoes and dress in layers. In spite of the city traffic, walking around can be a calming and peaceful day. Don't forget your camera!

One just imagines our nations capital to be all spiffy clean and
filled with pride to be American.
Overall, many of the memorials need power washing, deferred maintenance addressed, water clean up etc.
Not here. My questions met the answer of why this is not possible with politics in place here, that hinders the work that needs to be done.
Pity.
Budapest, one expected the Danube to be blue. It was muddy dirty not sure if it was sewage. A disappointment. It is a very poor and struggling country.
Our capital needs some attention.
