“Wonderful.”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

We spent a morning here and had a lovely time. We spent our time in the Oceans section. There is a beautiful aquarium/tank that the children love. Lots to see!

“Great for a quick visit too”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

This is a beautiful and chock full museum but it is also possible to do a quick in and out. I hit just the gem and mineral exhibit and had a great time. Nice to have so much available for free.

“So much to see, possibly the best one for kids!”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

Sooo much to see here - this one was typical of the science museum in our area in terms of what was featured. I liked this far better than the American History and Air and Space (although they were great too). We spent about 3 hours here (2 adults), could easily have spent more. If you have kids (or are fun adults!), make sure you find the kiosk that morphs your picture into a homo neanderthalenis or similar. Smithsonian was offering a discounted annual membership that I didn't hear about until the 3rd museum - it would have saved us some money on the Imax and gift shop. If you see the Imax, keep your tickets, because you can save on additional shows at the other Smithsonians.

“Fascinating”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

We enjoyed a fascinating exhibit about archaeological research in Jamestown, Virginia. CSI fans or anyone with a medical or historical bent will love the exhibit "Bones". The geology/gems section is beautiful. Even hunks of rock can be beautiful with amazing color and pattern and from there you progress to the polished gems and the famous Hope Diamond. There is much more to see in this museum, but these two were all we had time for because we read everything without rushing through. This is only one of several Smithsonian museums on the Washington Mall and I would recommend savoring each one without haste even if you have to postpone some for a later trip. Even better, study on line or guidebooks to pick your favorite(s) if time is limited. Pleasant but a little pricey café in the basement. Of course, it would take time and money to get to a restaurant somewhere else, so use the café if that is your timetable.

“A great time to visit a great museum”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

It's about as admirable and expansive as the New York Museum of Natural History, but in a much more historic setting. Just beautiful, and filled with wonderful exhibits (real butterflies, jewels, animals, dinosaurs, art, hands-on exhibits, amazement). Any time after Thanksgiving is perfect for a quieter and more enjoyable visit.
