I love this museum but this last visit is revealing its age and the need for updating. While the content is always amazing and some displays are really strong, others are looking tired needing to be refreshed in the way say NYC Museum of natural history is working. Yes funding is likely too scarce for what is needed but it will happen one day thus restoring the Smith MoNH to its deserved former glory. Best time to go - the slowest times.

Part of the Smithsonian family and a free museum. There is so much to see it's almost overwhelming. Take your time. Good place for kids. Good exhibits. Don't miss the Hope Diamond and other jewels.

Totally love this museum. I always see something that I missed the last time. The entire museum is geared toward families and brainiacs alike. The only thing that would make it better would be if I were actually there the next time everything came to life....

Seriously though, it's an incredible collection of everything naturally occurring. You could spend three days in here if you wanted.

Want to see the Hope Diamond? Thousands of gems and crystalls to dinosaurs and fossils. Want to learn about DNA or the ocean? It was truly amazing and worth the day.
