You must visit if time allows. You really could spend a whole day in just this museum. You pay your taxes... you might as well take advantage of what has to be the best museum of natural history in the country. It is as fascinating as an adult as it is as a child! If you can, make a day of the Smithsonian museums!

Love the Smithsonians, but this is not one of my favorites. However, that's mostly because of a scarring experience as a child and should not keep you away. Make sure to check out the Hope Diamond!

Other than the zoo, this is a place my daughter wants to go every time we are in the D.C. area. You could spend all day in this museum and still not see everything.

Watching my 3-year-old mesmerized by this museum was the best part of our vacation. We couldn't possibly visit all the exhibits in this museum with two kids in tow, but our favorites were the dinosaurs, the large elephant in the atrium and the butterfly garden.
