Coming from a different country it was hard to grasp the impact of the Vietnam War, but the memorial definitely made it a lot more clear. It was a quiet walkway where time is taken to reflect. It was excellent to see the volunteers who more then willing to help people find names, and talk about anything related to the memorial.

“Intense and made an impact”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

We visited as this as part of bike tour and decided to go back again. It was memorial day weekend so it was a bit crowded. Intense experience - and when you walk through it - it is quiet and reflective.

“A touching tribute”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

I broke down twice while walking around the memorial. If you do not know much about Vietnam, it is worth watching the documentary Letters Home from Vietnam before you go (it's online). If you know about this conflict, a visit to the wall is fulfilling and will tug at your heart. The notes left on the wall, the flowers, and each and every single name taking up such a small space on it. I'm glad it is there to pay tribute to the men who lost their lives and teach the younger people today about the sacrifice they made.

“It's no longer revolutionary, but...”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

It is of course, moving. It's hard to remember now that other memorials have featured the names of those lost as the main feature, that when it was opened, the Vietnam memorial was a revolution in how we commemorate wars. No more men on horseback with swords raised, no more To Our Glorious Dead. At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, it is personal, and this comes home as you see people touch and bless the names carved in the granite. A must see in DC.

“A moving tribute”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

We always find this solemn memorial to be both moving and incredible sad. Walking along the wall, in the hushed silence that the space commands, allows visitors to reflect on the terrible loss of life wreaked by this terrible war.
