Owner description: Emotionally stirring memorial pays tribute to the men and women who served in one of America's most controversial wars.

From a distance, the design of this memorial looks to me like a large scar on the face of the earth. While opinions on the war may vary, I feel the design is fitting as a metaphor for the impact of the war on our young people and our nation. Close up, being able to see the -- so very many -- individual names of soldiers who died in this war is enough to bring tears to the eyes of even the most stoic. Still more moving are the individually placed flowers notes or other small memorabilia left by those who personally knew and loved individual soldiers we lost. This is a very solemn and moving memorial.

You cannot appreciate the number of lives lost in Vietnam until you see this wall (in my opinion). The sheer vastness of it and the thousands and thousands of names on it are very emotionally overwhelming. It's a gorgeous memorial.

If you're seeing any memorials in DC, then see this one. This is a war within our memory, and as beautiful as the setting is, and it is, the memorable part of the living soldiers and families who come here. Bring tissues.

To see the names is overwhelming. We walked past the whole wall reading names as we went, trying to think of what their life was like before the war. They were all just people like us. Very sad, but the memorial is beautiful.
