We popped into the library following our visit of the Capitol. We did a self guided tour with the free map, but luckily were able to hear some of the free guided tours when in some of the smaller areas. The guides were very knowledgeable about the history of the building and the work that is done there.
The 1507 Waldseemüller map is the first map that shows America, which is brilliant. They hadn't discovered much of west America at that time, and it was interesting to see how much of the world geography we did understand so long ago.
Definitely pop in!

We visited the library on October 24th. After the security check you can put your coats and/or bags in the locker-room. There are several guided tours, but we visited the library by ourselves. Enjoy the nice architecture and try not to be upset by the schoolchildren. There is an interesting exhibition about World War One. Unfortunately most of the visitors are more interested in the baseball exhibitions.

By far the most beautiful public building I've ever seen. The walls and ceilings are covered with paintings that are not only beautiful but educational as well. There are dozens of quotes from famous writings, murals of events and oh yeah, books. Some of the original books from Thomas Jefferson are there for viewing.
You can skip everything else in DC but you must take 3 hours and visit this gem.

This was a big WOW for me ! The inside art work is stunning. We didn’t have time to take the tour. Jefferson’s library is a must see with books so so so old.
There is a tunnel that takes you here from Capitol Hill.

So pleased we visited this wonderful building. Fantastic artwork to view on ceilings and walls, lovely sculptures and fantastic stained glass. Plus, of course, so many books.

The beauty of this building is amazing! You have to see it to understand. They don’t make buildings like this anymore. It’s also great to take a peek at Thomas Jefferson’s private collection that he donated to the Library of Congress. Definitely worth your time and doesn’t take long to see it. I would allow no more than an hour.

This is a nice experience. Plan to spend about Two hours or more (pending on your love for books). Long lines at times to overlook the research reading room.
