“walk was worth it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2006

it was quite a walk around the tidal basin, but the jefferson memorial was worth it. personally, i loved it. not as crowded as the lincoln memorial, and no lines. i think it is overlooked. you can rent a paddleboat and boat across the basin, which i think will be really awesome and not as tiring. it's beautiful inside, with a statue of jefferson, and a museum underground. the cherry blossoms there are beautiful in the spring, and the weather was nice. (we went in early april). the FDR memorial is really close by, so if you have the time or stamina, walk over there and have a look. not as great as the jeff. memorial in my opinion, but still worth a see. and one last note, if you are there on spring break, be sure to go there on April 13th, jefferson's birthday!

“Very moving”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2005

Visited the Jefferson Memorial on July 4, 2005. What a moving memorial. Take a few minutes to read the inscriptions on the memorial walls. The statue of Jefferson is quite large but simple and elegant. The view from the memorial to the White House (FDR cut down the trees so he could see the memorial from the White House) and the Washington Monument is really incredible. Take the elevator downstairs to see the museum display that details Jefferson's life and accomplishments.

“An Neat Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2004

I really like this memorial. When my teenaged brother came to visit this was his favorite memorial. It is a beautiful backdrop for the Tidal Basin (part of the Potomac River). It is the "round memorial" if you are seeing it from the road or air on your first trip to D.C. This area is particulary beautiful during the Cherry Blossom Festival in the spring.

“Serene Monument to a Talented Man”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2003

The Jefferson Monument sits atop a small hill overlooking beautiful waters. It is a calm place, with white marble and great quotes etched high in the walls. There is a very large statue of Jefferson in the centre, and a wonderful exhibit on his life downstairs. Jefferson was a man of many talents and this memorial does a great work in teaching people about his life.
