“A must see for Americans and foreignors alike”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

The Jefferson Memorial is unique among Washington, DC memorials in its setting (the wonderful tidal basin), the architecture and the tribute to one of America's founding fathers and writers/statesmen of world stature. This is a lovely spot to stop on the steps and take in the scene, looking back over the basin to the Washington Monument in the distance and the hundreds of cherry trees circling the basin. Be sure to read his writings enscribed on the inside wall of the Memorial. They are guaranteed to move you.

“A Good Place for Reflection”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

We went on a chilly evening around dusk and really enjoyed the comparative lack of crowds. The architecture feels less imposing and more contemplative than other monuments and memorials in DC (e.g. the Lincoln and WW2 Memorials). As the sun set and the lights came on, the building took on a beautiful glow. Don't miss the exhibits downstairs, as they're an interesting effort in relating Jefferson's enthusiasm for the sciences to more recent history.

“Great Memorial especially at Sunset”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

The memorial is a little out of the way in comparison to how close other memorials are to each other, but this is a great memorial that many will enjoy. Right on the water, the Jefferson Memorial gives a nice view of the Washington Monument. I recommend going around sunset, because the sky, the water--beautiful.

“The most approachable and introspective of the monuments”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

Many of the other memorials in and around the National Mall are so grand and of a larger-than-life scale that it's difficult to relate to the subjects. Not so with the Jefferson Memorial, where the scale is much more approachable and introspective.

Due to it being a little more remote, there are less crowds -- especially in the early morning. Several times I've been there around sunrise and had the entire memorial to myself, with the Park Service Ranger on duty dropping by on occasion.

Very much worth a visit.

“Amazing”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

Together with the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial has appeared in countless movies, and it's just as amazing as the Lincoln one. I personally preferred this one though, because I found the inscriptions really meaningful, and for some reason this memorial evoked more emotions from our party -perhaps because of the sunset we enjoyed here as we read the inscriptions and looked out at the Washington Monument.
