We toured this memorial around sunset, so the light was very spectacular. We had toured the museum of the American indian that day so it was hard to look benevolently at Jefferson, knowing he had recommended their extermination if they did not assimilate.

Still a magnificent sight.

If you have free time in Washington DC and feel like stretching your legs, you can visiting all the major sites in one day and soak up the respect that Americans have for their history and past presidents

Most of the group didn't want to stop. But I made them. I'm glad I did. It was a walk to the front of the monument and then up the stairs, but was it worth it. I am so glad I got to see it. I will come back.

The location of the attraction is remote from the others, it sits on its own on a sort of island. Getting there is easy (and worth it), the surrounding views and images you can capture from here are really beautiful.

We enjoy walking around the tidal pool and always stopping by the Jefferson Memorial to reflect on history.

This was a little off the track of the other monuments however we were glad to go as it was such a beautiful place and much more peaceful than the other monument areas. The views are stunning from this monument.

It is a shame this memorial is far away from the others. We missed it walking around but took a tour the next day and were glad we added it on to see. Nice quotes.

There's a great little museum downstairs--it's all signs, so not great for the kids, but info-packed for adults--and two gift shops. Definitely read the quotes inscribed on the inner walls of the memorial itself; they are incredibly relevant to the questions we face today.

More grand and far less chaotic than the Lincoln Memorial which is dedicated to the Civil War, the Jefferson Memorial captures 85 years earlier when the world's first experiment in democracy was being conceived following our Revolutionary War against Britain. Most Americans would be surprised to read Jefferson's inscribed quote reminding future generations that the initial vision of the founding fathers should evolve along with the country's changing views over time. A 30 minute walk from the National Mall offers sweeping views across the tidal basin, but don't attempt it at night because there are surprisingly few pathway lights for safety.
