This is one of the few museums in DC that aren't free, but it's well worth the price of admission. We spent only one day there, but the ticket allows you two days access. There were so many interresting things to see and hear - lots of pictures and recordings of historical events. I particularly enjoyed the perspective of how important journalists are in our world as they struggle and fight to bring news to the rest of us.
The Pulitzer Prize Photographs exhibit alone is worth the price of admission. Stunning and very moving exhibit.

I have just got back from one of the most amazing museums I have ever been to.

It was opened in 2007. It is based on journalism but is so, so much more. It has the largest piece of the Berlin Wall outside Berlin. it has the Unibomber's hut, it has the most moving exhibits of 9/11 I have ever seen including parts of the plane that hit the World Trade Centre and part of the WTC itself. it has the camera recovered from the wreckage belonging to the only journalist who died there together with the last photo he ever took. it has amazing Pulitzer prize winning photo's. it has great video and photo footage on Presidential elections going back in time. It is moving, inspiring and thought provoking.

The exhibit of the mobile phones recovered from the Trade Centre that kept ringing and the purse recovered from a stewardess on one of the planes were so personal they brought the horror back after eleven years.

For all the sins of modern journalism the museum brought home the importance of the freedom of the press and the power for good it can do.

Sorry, boring I know, but I have rarely been so stunned.

The ticket allows access for 2 consecutive days, and you will need it! We spent 2 half days there and it was not even enough. The experience starts outside, with the front page of one newspaper from every state posted in glass cases for viewing by anyone, the cities not the same every day. The inside is 4 floors just packed with information and history: displays, interactive displays, films, film clips, movies, posters, quizzes, related games for adults and children, all addressing written and spoken words on freedoms, the press, photography and up-to-date subjects like Twitter, Facebook, texting, and on an on. It is one of the best museums we have ever attended.

Newseum is a new private museum in DC. My wife and I paid a visit in early October 2012 when visiting Washington DC. It's not cheap (about $22/adult), however we got a huge discount because my wife is a teacher. The museum is great: lots of interesting exhibits about the history of mass media, interactive media, etc. I would highly recommend it.
