Owner description: Find out for yourself why everyone is calling the Newseum the best experience Washington, D.C. has to offer. Each of the seven levels in this magnificent building is packed with interactive exhibits that explore free expression and the five freedoms of the First Amendment: religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. Whether you have just a few hours or want to spend all day, you'll find something for everyone in the family in the Newseum's 15 theaters and 15 galleries.
Useful Information: Activities for older children

Lots of interesting photographs and memorabilia, along with some documentaries that present some interesting topics. Prize-winning photos, an FBI exhibit, extensive 9/11 coverage and interactive stations all add up to an interesting day. Allow an entire day or at least 3-4 hours as there are 6 floors of exhibits. The tickets allow you to visit the following day also.

Very open and honest presentation about the role of the press in the United States. Plenty of history. Great location. One of the best additions to washington DC in the last 30 years.

The pass is good for two days and you could easily spend that time there with your family. From interactive mock newscasts for the children and a thoughtful display of videocasts about the Berlin Wall for the adults, a great experience

First amendment, Pulitzer Prize photos, ethics, memorials, 9/11, news history, world history, evolution of electronic news, front pages, Presidential photographers, Berlin wall, broadcast studio, interactive newsroom, FBI exhibit, comics, etc. If the news industry has been involved, it is in this museum. Many interactive exhibits; fun for kids and adults. Comprehensive--I wish I'd had the two days the ticket covers; one is not enough.

People either love or hate the Newseum. I'm amongst the latter. In the old day,s before moving to the new site and before the internet, the Newseum was innovative and different. But now, they've moved from artifacts to electronic displays and there's very little that you can't see at home on the internet if you just look for it.

If the Newseum were part of the Smithsonian and were free, it would be a worthwhile stop. But it's expensive and not worth the price, given the other options in Washington.
