Owner description: The refreshing thing about Lake Champlain – well, apart from the gorgeous, Adirondack-flanked lake itself – is its lack of bustle and over-development. There’s lots to do, like hike, golf, camp and take boat cruises, but the beauty is, how easy it is to not do anything.

Know your history before visiting and a nice visit becomes even better. More specifically, naval history, look it up! Present day however, we had ospreys flying overhead and kayaks in the water. Kayaks are available to rent or you can bring your own. Saw young and old jumping fom a 4 foot swimming platform into the lake and enjoying their swim. Remember that admission to a VT state park includes admission to other VT state parks in the same day. MT. Philo is not far away.

Great Lake to visit with a lot of history in terms of battles and Indian history. I enjoyed a boat your we took on the lake allowing us to see the tiny islands up close. There is a sailing club which goes out on the lake, it is great to see them learning and zipping around on the lake.

If you are looking to escape the crowds and stress of a beach vacation then visit the Champlain Valley. Swim all you want in the cool and clean lake waters and no Sharks!
Besides swimming, there are quiet country roads and attractions like the Shelburne Museum and the Vermont Teddy Bear factory. We have a small boat that we bring along but if you dont happen to have one , the Burlington Waterfront has charter and cruise options to get you out on the lake.

We also can personally recommend:
Crown Point, Revolutionary War ruins (right on the Lake and you get to cross the lake on the brand new Champlain Bridge.)
Lake Champlain Maritime Museum
Fishing on Lake Champlain and on its tributaries

North Beach in Burlington
Charlotte VT-Essex NY Ferry (very cheap way to get yourself out on the lake!)

I spend the afternoon at Kingsland Bay State Park on the lake. The park is small with beautiful grass field going down to the water. There are docks, trails, BBQ area and tennis court. Great place to spend a sunny day with the family.

I spent a weekend on the shor of lake Champlain in South Hero, Vermont and it was one of the most relaxing times I have had in quite a while. The area is beautiful and with the lake in the background you can't help but sleep like a baby.
