We stayed 5 days at a camp site right on the lake. Almost the entire camp ground we stayed is surrounded by beach that you can just walk right into the water, or park your jet skies. The water was like ice, so top speed on the jet skies was incredible. all the little coves to explore, and secluded areas to boat to and swim are so much fun, and can be romantic. I didnt like that there was a camp ground curfew of 10:00 pm, thats a little early for us to be committing to stay in for the night. But besides that I LOVE this lake!

I have sailed on many of the lakes in Texas and nothing matches Lake Texoma in quality of winds, areas to explore, and the number of marinas to visit. However, i recently hired a fishing guide to take my family - 4 kids ages 7- 12 and my wife. We had such a great time and caught wonderful stripers. It reminded me of what a fabulous lake this is and how beautiful it is.

We went to Cedar Mills Marina in Gordonville, TX to look at a boat that was for sale. The marina was open, and we saw boats coming and going, unlike back "home" in Missouri, where "lake season" is in mothballs, and marinas are closed. The weather was cool but pleasant, and there was a brisk breeze and some whitecaps. The sailboats were having a good romp, and the powerboats were a little bumpy looking!

The Lake is on the Red River, and indeed there is red sand along the shores. The lake has been pretty murky both times we have been there. It is a very large body of water, renowned for striper fishing and sailing.

Cedar Mills has a nice restaurant, "Pelican's Landing" which sits at the lakeshore by the docks, where one can sit and enjoy the scenery while having a nice meal and a drink. There are kingfishers diving for their dinner, and several species of ducks and geese on the water. White Pelicans frequent the area in other seasons. There is wifi at the restaurant. If you want any alcohol, you'll need to Join their "Club", then it's no problem. This is a dry county, although Oklahoma is just a few miles away. The food is good, and they have everything from burgers to fish tacos to prime rib. The adjoining bar has music and TVs. The staff at both places is very friendly and efficient.

There are rental cottages available. Standard is... pretty standard, and not romantic at all. $65. The deluxe cabin has fireplace and TV, and wood is provided. $115 was worth it to me. Both types of lodging have 2 double beds, kitchenettes with basic stuff, and a grill. There is an air strip and rv area nearby as well.

The "ship's store" is where you register for your rooms. They also have a gift /T shirt shop, and some basic supplies you may need. The staff is very nice and helpful.

There is across the street, a boat broker shop, which is open on weekends. The marina has a travel lift, and a full service marine shop. It is also home to the venerable "Valiant Yacht" company, which makes the offshore sailing vessels. There are some old hull molds up the hill that are interesting to look at.

There is an active yacht club on site. They have a nice clubhouse also.

Cedar Mills is small town hospitality and smiles. Great spot for a quiet winter weekend getaway. We really felt welcome there, and felt relaxed.

If you are looking for the spa, shopping, nightlife, and glitzy entertainment, you'd better keep looking....elsewhere!

Lake Texoma is gorgeous. We put in at Highport Marina in Pottsboro. There is a fun and clean restaurant/ bar there called The Island. The lake is very big, we didn't even see all of it. We liked watching the sailboats and the yachts with their big wakes. There are nice sandy beaches all along the shore and all these great islands to anchor at and swim and play. Tanglewood Resorts is near Highport, although there are other hotels, like a Best Western and Hampton Inn near the Highway, about 10 minutes away.

We've been fishing Lake Texoma, straddled on the Oklahoma/Texas border for the past 30 years and it has regularly been a top striped bass fishing destination in America. This past October, we made a morning trip near Washita Point and Catfish Creek and landed only a handful of small striped bass and a small largemouth bass in 2.5 hours of fishing. This was considered a poor fishing day but Texoma standards where you can regularly fill your ice chest with a limit of stripers.

There are many hotel and accommodations on the Oklahoma and Texas side of the lake and seemingly hundreds of fishing guides that can take you for a morning, afternoon or day of fishing. Texoma is great for holidays and weekends but can get quite busy with boat traffic. This lake is particularly well situated for those visiting Dallas, wanting a great fishing experience or those living anywhere in the Oklahoma City/Tulsa to Dallas area wanting to go fishing where you are almost guaranteed to catch some fish.

We highly recommend Lake Texoma as one of the best fishing lakes in the midwest United States and a great location for a family holiday.
