A high point on the fruit loop is this farm full of alpacas. Today we saw one just 44 hours old and adorable. Amazing to see how independent they are so soon. Just after a rain when we visited this time so they weren't at their most "attractive" but they're always fun to see. Many variations of color and size and they seem to like people (a handful of food helps). The store shows and sells a great variety of yarn and some finished goods, also a loom for weaving demos. Fun for any age and worth the drive up the hill.

I thought there were some good fruit stands and some so-so ones. Here are the ones we liked:

- Draper Girls - good for u-pick. We got peaches and blueberries. Also had the best view of Mt Hood
- Packer Orchards - lots of jams to choose from. They had samples of almost every one to try before you buy
- Smiley's Red Barn - wide selection of fruits at good prices

I'm not sure where the other reviewers found the fruit stands but our experience was horrible. We got there in the afternoon after visiting the Gorge. Fruit stands were either not open or if they were, the fruit that was on display was rotting. We went to "Oprah's favorite stand" only to find out that they only sell fruit on Fridays, and that's the leftovers they have from the week. We ended up getting 3 cookies, 2 cinamons rolls and a bag of blueberries (the blueberries were the only fruit edible). I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place. There are too many incredible natural wonders within a 100-miles radius to lose precious time here. If you want fruit, there are fruit stands in many of the little towns around Portland.

We took the Fruit Loop Drive and stopped into a couple of wineries and stopped at some fruit stands. The beautiful blue sky appeared for us for the entire day which made the drive much more enjoyable. Further on we stopped at the Ranger Station and then on to My Hood. A nice day trip from Portland.

This was a fun drive. Many fruit stands and wine tasting. I am from Florida and had never seen plums, pears, and cherries on the tree!
