We were looking for a relaxing trip and Kelley's Island did not disappoint. We took the ferry from Marblehead and once we arrived on the island, we felt like we were a world away from everything. There aren't nearly as many shops, restaurants and tourist attractions as Put-in-Bay, but to me, that's a big plus. The island itself is very beautiful and still has lots of undeveloped land, heavy woods and gorgeous lakefront views at every turn. We stayed at the State Park Campgrounds and were pleasantly surprised at how well-maintained and quiet they are. There's a beach on the property and the restrooms/showers were nice and clean. One day we took the Jet Express to Put-In-Bay, rented a cart out and drove around the island. It was a lot of fun, but we were happy to get back to Kelley's Island. We will definitely go back.

Cost us $50 dollars to park car, and ride ferry round trip for a few hours on Kelley's Island. Cost us $44 dollars to rent a golf cart for 4 hours. Not enough there to justify spending those dollars. Downtown is small, and frankly, not very welcoming. Island has very little to offer for a day trip. We left early, disappointed with the experience.

This was our second visit to Kelleys; we've done Put-in-Bay probably 10 times. Kelleys is the bigger yet more laid-back, less-touristy island, great for couples and families to spend a relaxing times driving/biking around the island, getting a bite to eat, and visiting the state park and Glacial Grooves. The ferry from Marblehead added to a nice trip.

My wife and I spent a day riding bikes visiting the wine shops and watching people and boats come and go. What a great place to visit, next year we hope to take up the Kayak Poker Run in September and they have a camping ground on the island so maybe we will be pitching the tent that weekend. Kelleys a great stop. Enjoy!

Here's what to believe people, and I'm truly unbiased, even though I've been going to Kelleys Island since I was a kid. These days, I head there by jet ski from Sandusky or by Kelley's Island Ferry out of Marblehead with bikes in tow. I'm not a family guy so this review is from the viewpoint of someone who goes with friends/girlfriend. This is a laid back island as compared to Put In Bay. That's not to say you can't find a party going on at The Pump, Casino, or West Bay (live music at Casino and West Bay...check schedules). Bike riding the island from the ferry heading west and circling the island is how it's best experienced. First, head to The Pump for Brandy Alexanders. Best anywhere, period. Walk across the street to the Casino for a bite and drink overlooking the marina. The place along the water to the west of it (can't think of it's name!) is wonderful too....tall white wooden chairs, right on the marina, so it's great for a water view and they serve super food. Bag The Moon is fun for a quick strawberry (famous for them). Head west by bike to West Bay Inn for a great view of Put In Bay (albeit far off in the distance) and the best sunset view on either island (Put in Bay or Kelleys). The ribs are off the hook tender and tasty. Continue on around the island, down the hill to Glacial Grooves and take a walk around them, read their history, etc. Nice campground across the street that's worth a bike ride through as well (small beach here as well). Finish off the day at the Kelleys Island Wine Company for good food pizza/food and horse shoes with wine glass in hand. It's a mellower day than what you'd experience on Put In Bay but thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying. Skip the Jet Express and experience the islands the way they were meant to be experienced...by the regular ferries. You can rent bikes as well as taking your own, or rent a golf cart to get around. Biking is way more fun than a golf cart though!!
