This is an awesome experience to hike this mountain - temp.-can change drastically-so be prepared-got to the top one day and had to crawl because the winds where so high - the view is magical- anyone that can do it should try - or at least take the cog railway up (another unique experience)

The visibility was 50 feet, the wind was blowing 42MPH and the temp was 32 degrees. (wind chill 17) This may be worth the toll on a sunny day, but don't even think about it if it is cloudy and cool from the base of the mountain.

If you get the chance to drive up Mount Washington to visit the Observatory on the top and you can face the breath taking climb on roads barely able to accommodate two cars, then do it and you will not regret it. The experience is one to savour and should you get a clear day I believe the views are amazing. Unfortunately, although we left high temperatures and brilliant sunshine, by the time we got to the summit, the temperature had dropped considerably and we could barely see a hand in front of our face! Nevertheless the experience was great and I would have no hesitation in doing it again, providing the sun was shining on the summit.

if you love to hike this is a great mountain to do it, 4-5 hours and if the weather is good it is a very easy climb. the weather can change quickly at the top so a last look on the weather advisory website for Mount Washington observatory is the best tip i can give. We carried very very heavy packsacks and really should have left a lot of the water home. There is a great spot on top for hikers with washrooms, cafeteria like for lunch but you can buy food and water for the trek down so carrying the extra is not necessary. We went mid Aug. , took mitts and hats but the hood on the jacket was enough for the wind up top. It could have been easier without the weight but i guess it is best to be prepared. We took everything on the list but mostly everyone else had very small pack sacks.

We did a hike from Pinkham Notch VC (Started at 10am) and hiked up to Mt Washington via Tuckerman Ravine Trail, then turned uphill on Lion Head and finally to Mt Washington summit, back all the way via Tuckerman (7pm) - 7h hike, 2h for breaks.

The weather was not the best but it cleared off later. The outlook is stunning and worth the effort. The hike is strenuous all the way. It is over 3000 feet ascent so be prepared with good condition. Especially the last 30mins from a junction to summit there is no hiking path at all and it is only climbing and jumping around rocks.

Wear hiking boots!! It is worth it and avoid twisted ankles, which is very likely there. We saw people with sandales !!! Poles are only useful in the first part, later uphill you better use your hands.

Take some warmer stuff (long arms pullover) and gloves/hats with you. It can be cold there even in summer.

It's a hike that should have been made ... the vista will pay back for everything :-)
