“Rude park rangers massive bug issue!”

I just came back from an overnight camping trip to St Croix State Park. I will never go there again! To start with we were sent to a campsite with someone already in it. When we returned to the desk to inform them of the issue they switched us to another site. We specifically asked for a secluded site. We ended up by other campers at a site with very little foliage. When we stepped out of the car we were attacked by every bug known to man. Later we found multiple ticks and earwigs on us. Our bodies were also covered head to toe with mosquito bites. I understand we were in the woods and of course there are bugs but this was above and beyond normal. The worst issue however, was the very rude park rangers. They walked through everyone's campsite at night monitoring every little activity. While we were quietly relaxing by the fire we were told to hold it down. When we asked if there was a complaint on us we were told no there were no complaints but they could hear us when they were walking up! So pretty much no talking after 10 allowed. The next morning another park ranger bellowed at sleeping campers at 8 in the morning. He thrashed through the campsites kicking people out with 15 minute warnings. He pretty much woke up the entire campsite with his yelling and screaming. Needless to say this was a horrible camping experience. I would not recommend this park to anyone looking for a relaxing, camping trip.

We stayed in a housekeeping cabin (D) which was in a side-by-side triplex with cabins C & E. Ours was in the middle so a little noise from both sides but not a big deal. Very well maintained with a kitchen incl. a gas stove, sink, refrigerator & coffee machine. All the plates, silverware, pots and pans included. Also nice bathroom with sink and toilet. The shower was close and very nice.

The park is massive so we squeezed as much in during our 1 1/2 days as possible but will be back. If you're not afraid of heights, the view from the fire/observation tower is spectacular. The trails go on forever and some with breathtaking views of the river, etc. Perfect for hiking, biking or even horseback riding.

The store on site had all the basics including general dry groceries, ice, firewood and a small section with eggs, milk, bratwurst and cheese. Ice was $1.50/5lb and firewood was $4 per bundle and must be purchased at the campground (can't bring in). Since this is a state park, alcohol is not allowed... The rest of the campground looked excellent whether camping in a canoe accessible site or the main campground.

We just returned from a weekend camping trip at St. Croix State Park. The campsites are large, clean and well maintained. Lots to do for our kids (ages 7 & 11) - we hiked on beautiful trails - especially recommend the CCC self-guided hiking trail! Fishing in the river near the canoe landing was awesome (we were on the catch and release program). Showers and restrooms were very clean. Can't wait to return for summer canoeing!
