After a week in New England, the long drive back to Boston down the Mohawk Trail was an excellent end to our holiday, even though some of the Autumn colours were passing their best.

We went from Williamstown to S Deefield and back again...GORGEOUS. We also took a little detour up to Monroe State Park to have lunch by a flowing stream...SO beautiful and peaceful and found a beautiful town names Rowe. SO lovely and scenic...well worth the detour. We were a weekend off Peak Leaf-peeping but the color was still lovely in the mountains and along the rivers. Would do it again in a heart-beat, earlier in the fall season

If you are starting from Boston, you have a couple of choices to enjoy the October fall colors in New England. Our first choice was a day trip to New Hampshire. The time taken to do a low stress drive may be complicated due to traffic on the Interstate.

The next best choice is to drive along Route 2 West to the Mohawk Trail. The trees were a splendid sight to be captured on your digital camera. Lots of opportunities for side-trips to villages such as Amherst. The return trip to Boston can be made on Mass Pike.

We were less adventurous on this road trip as we had a 6-month old baby. The lunch at Orange (only 2 resturants open) was really bad. But the landscape along this route was magnificent. Will plan something more elaborate next Fall

You do have to drive this Trail. So much of nature to see all over. Take your time, make stops with your car and take Pictures. And of course take a stop at the hairpin curve to look at the view. And then go and have lunch at the golden eagle Restaurant, the fine Dining with a Million Dollar view as they call themselves.
