Easy walking trails, good spot for birding. Beautiful visitor center with great volunteer staff. Beautiful butterfly garden, never saw so many zebra butterflies at once!

We went on a Friday and there was hardly anyone there. Saw several types of birds including a bald eagle. Very nice butterfly garden. Helpful visitor center.

If you're coming to Kent County, then this is a place you must visit... regardless of the season. Kent County has in itself seasonal changes because of the nature of agriculture... which much of KC is devoted. Then there is the SW tip of the county where the wild life refuge is. You can see the Bay bridge 5 miles away, but it takes you 50 road miles to get there from the Refuge.

While the summer is great for eagles, osprey, turkey vultures and song birds... the Refuge really come to life with the migration of the waterfowl in the late fall, ducks, geese and most spectacular are the tundra swans. And the eagles and the turkey vultures are full time residents... as are many of the song bird species.

And there is the historical Visitor Center/Bookstore cottage that was built in 1933 as a hunting lodge.

And the best part... it's all free.

Osprey, eagles, red-winged black birds, vultures, etc., etc. And did I mention the butterflies. They have a garden and hiking trail devoted to butterflies What a beautiful setting. What a wonderful place!
