“8 out of 9 isn't too bad!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2011

We've been doing the Indiana Upland Trail for about 5 years now and just like every other year we had a great time. This years favorites were Winzerwald and the one of the new wineries on the trail, Brown County Winery. Carousel Wineries was much improved from the previous years and Turtle Run also was very nice (the carrot cake was awesome!). Oliver Winery brought back the Catawba Sparkling wine which made us very happy but their March Gladness presentation was not as good as previous years. Butler had good wine and good appetizers but they didn't have enough inside seating for the event, plenty of room outside but it is pretty chilly in March. Best Winery which is the newest winery on the trail had better wine than the year before but it was obvious that they were not prepared for March Madness crowds, the food was cold and not very good. Then there was French Lick Winery. the wines have always been pretty good but the atmosphere and the people behind the counter have always been the worst of all the wineries on the trail. First the atmosphere, it is way too bright and open so it doesn't have that warm welcoming feel of all the other wineries. The wine sampling area has more of a dime store fountain shop than a winery. But the most disappointing aspect of French Lick Winery is their customer service. Every time that we have been there we have always felt as though we were a bother rather than a valued customer. They are never very talkative, they don't make eye contact and they make you feel like they just want to get you away from the counter so they can get back to their restaurant duties. Every time we go there we buy 3 to 4 bottles of wine and we sometimes bring another couple which do the same. It stands to reason that a customer that spend $30 to $40 dollars should warrant some courteous and friendly customer service. Quite honestly if they were not part of the trail we wouldn't go there. But having 8 pleasant visits and only one that isn't a pleasant experience is worth doing the trail. So yes we will be back on the trial next year!
