We saw the mission from the highway and decided we would stop there on the way back to Spokane. What a great idea! The Visitors' Center is a must and be sure to ask to see the movie, which will give you good information and historical background. The mission itself is beautiful and even more impressive given that just one creative and talented man was responsible for its simplistic beauty. The guides are all in love with the place and will talk with you as long as you are interested. The bonus? Gorgeous views of the surrounding area. If you're on the road, pack a picnic lunch and eat on the grounds.

I thought this might be an ordinary mission type museum but was very surprised at how incredible this church is. The way this church was built amazes me. Fr. Ravalli was educated in physics, art, engineering in Italy and what he manged to build in Idaho with only an axe, pully and few tools is incredible. The priest created an Altar and pained it with wax to make it look like marble, carved candle holders from their tin cans, carved statutes from wood. The Mission history also made me realize how precious the Coeurdalene Indians are. You must stop here and really look at the history and story you will be amazed.
