Owner description: The "River of No Return" is the longest free-flowing river contained within one state of America's lower 48 states. This river begins South of Stanley, Idaho, through the towns of Clayton, Challis and Salmon before heading West through the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The Designated Wild & Scenic section, from Corn Creek to Carey Creek is one of the world's best wilderness river trips.

We have taken 2 trips on the middle fork and 1 on the lower salmon all with Hughes River Expeditions. Each one has been the most amazing experience. My favorite is the middle fork-almost the entire trip is through wilderness area and the fly fishing for cut-throat trout is world class. The lower salmon is a great trip too, the water is warmer thus we enjoyed kayaking on this trip as well, although the fishing isn't as good. On both trips the landscape, wildlife and camping spots are incredible. What really makes the trips special are the guides from Hughes--they are friendly, experienced and wonderful cooks. The food on these trips is amazing. After four trips (the fourth was on the snake river through Hells Canyon-covered on another review) we consider many of them friends and will certainly be going on additional trips with Hughes in the future.

You just can't get a better ride than cruising down the Salmon River. In my opinion and that of many more experienced than I, the combination of great scenery, water quality, fishing, campsites and just all round fun. You can't go wrong with the guide services, these guys are all experts and love what they do. The trip is a life changer.

Awesome outfitter; excellent guides; great food!

This is the second trip I've made with Holiday River Expeditions (did the Main Salmon last year) and will not be my last. They are incredibly well organized and take care of everything.

I highly recommend Holiday!

My family, friends and I spent a week in Stanley, Idaho and had the grandest of times thanks to the Sawtooth Adventure company. We went to Sawtooth looking for only a single day of rafting but they provided much more. They are well equipped for all types of water recreational activities. We ended up sending our teenagers down the rapids for a one day trip and then went into the store daily to rent stand up paddle boards and kayaks to use on the river and local lakes. We were turned onto this company because the owner, Jared, had an abundance of information on local secret spots and directed us to such places. Not only that but he helped us prepare for all adventures. Daily, Jared kept the fun going and going. He did not treat us like customers but as if we were dear friends that have known each other for years. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking for an unforgettable time and a trip off the beaten path!

Spent a week in Sun Valley, ID and wanted to hit a rafting trip, with 4 young kids. While the 'grown-ups' wanted to hit some Class 4/5 water, we knew that wasn't going to work for our 4-7 yr olds. Jeremy, at White Cloud Rafting, suggested the Class 3 trip and it was perfect. We were on the water for about 3+ hrs and everyone had a great time. Our guide, Davis, was fantastic; knowledgeable about the Salmon River, local wildlife & history and filled us in on rafting (in general). Davis, and the entire White Cloud Team, were all super-friendly and fun.
Hi-light of the trip: stopping at the 'swimming hole' about half-way through the trip and 7 yr old son jumping off the big rock, not once but twice, then double-dog-daring Dad to do it, too! That water is cold!! Jeremy has a great team and I would absolutely recommend White Cloud Rafting, for all groups!

The Salmon River has 4 great outfitters each offering a different style trip. White Otter Adventures, Sawtooth Adventure Company, The River Company and Whitecloud Raft Adventures. Find more information on their website's and by researching each of them under 'Things to do in Stanley, Idaho' on TripAdvisor
