I have a passion for Florida Springs. Morrison Spring is one of the best. I try to dive Morrison 2 - 3 times a year, and I live over four hours away. The County did improve access to the spring several years back by adding restrooms, a pavilion, boardwalks and parking. These improvements protect and preserve the spring’s ecology and are well maintained. If you’re looking for a great dive or spending a day with the family, you can't beat this spring. It's big, it’s beautiful, and it's free!
There are only two things other than bad weather that will disappoint you visiting Morrison Spring.
(1) The spring run flows to the Choctawhatchee River a short distance away. The Choctawhatchee River is tannic in color, and if it is at, or near flood stage, the dark waters back up into the spring basin. Although, the water is crystal clear 1 - 2 feet below the surface.
The State operates a website that monitors river heights in the area. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/fl Check it out before you drive any distance.
(2) If possible, visit on a weekday. Morrison Spring is popular, especially in the summer and is always crowded on Saturday and Sunday. In the cooler months on the weekends you may have 30 – 40 divers or more and their equipment to contend with. Weekday, Weekday, Weekday!
In my opinion, the negative reviews are unfounded and without merit. The only thing I can think of is some people want to reduce the number of visitors to the spring, in any case, Morrison Spring IS a place of natural beauty, both above and below the surface.

I was there August 17, 2012. Because of the rain, the water was muddy, so my review is unfair. Luckily, Ponce De Leon State Park is only about 10 minutes away. Went there instead -- the water was beautiful. Read my review there. I was so disappointed. I was looking forward to seeing the springs. If you are into this sort of thing -- Florida's spring fed lakes and rivers are really cool. Check out Crystal River, near Tampa -- you can see manatees there.

This spring is one of the most beautiful in Florida. It is perfect for snorkeling and picnicking.the park is very family friendly with one problem.Smoking is allowed in all areas.if you are relaxing by the water someone next to you may pollute your area with no regard for you. Also the picnic pavilion if not smoke free.this could be a problem with all the scuba divers using the area. The state or county could make some areas smoke free.

I have free dived here a few times and finally got the chance to scuba here. I went ahead and got inside the cavern...down yo almost 90 feet. A little spooky in there but WOW! ill never forget it. Morrison is a great place to spend the day swimming, relaxing, have lunch...it's what Northwest Florida is all about. Crystal blue water and perfect weather.
