There is a marina on Vallecito. New ownership as of this summer. New slips and friendly employees. A great place!
Perfect place for hiking boating and fishing county road 501 winds around the mountains giving you good wildlife viewing area and the lake has meadows to run the dog or fish and kayak from
Beautiful drive out to Lemon Lake and Vallecito Lake. We weren't real sure about the dirt road that goes around part of the lake, but we made the drive and it was outstanding viewing. Be sure to check out both lakes!
Great fishing for brown and rainbow trout, walleye, pike. The lake is very large this year and almost flooded due to the rainy season. I have seen it only about a quarter full during last years drought. They rent boats and paddle boats at the marina. The weather is usually very nice 70-80 daytime, 30-50 at night depending on which time of year you go. Lots of cabins, motels and camping available. If you fish you can get licenses 5 day and yearly.
I found this area to be excellent for scenery and the lake is a plus to its beauty. The people here are very nice and hospitable The Blue Spruce RV resort was a great place to spend our down time and reasonably priced. If you wish to park at the lake to fish it will cost you $3 a day or $30 a year(guess they have to make money in more ways).
Now for the BUT.I have fished many states and their rivers in the past and had little to no problem finding good fishing areas. The problem I have found with Colorado is that approximately 70 or more of their rivers areas are non-fishable.Why?? Because its all PRIVATE PROPERTY!!!!!! How can a state have such great fishing and yet not have access to the prime areas? If you wish to fish you are being forced to get a guide who can fish those waters or fish the areas that are already pounded to death. If you want to fish these rivers on private property you can in a floating device, but your feet can not touch the bottom(or I guess you are trespassing). This is sad to see a state so rich in sports, yet not have the areas to apply our sport. We can only hope that sooner or later they do something to correct this problem and allow fishermen to have access to more waters!!!!!
If you are thinking about coming to Vallecito to enjoy the lake on a rented boat forget it. The marina has shut down and as far as we know there are no plans for another one
