We really enjoyed walking around this spectacular place, we were passing on the main highway and the drive to the State Park was well worth it. The entry fee is very reasonable as this is an amazing place to visit, you could spend the whole day here taking photos of the various buildings and scenes! During out visit to California we visited a number of towns from the gold rush era but nothing came close to Bodie, it is a gem and due to its remote location has been able to remain in such a state that today is it like stepping back in time without any side show what so ever. This place is superb!

Many of the buildings still have artifacts, bottles, Beds, chairs, bottles, tables, bottles... Well you get the picture! They did a lot of drinking and shooting in those days! Check out the cemetery and jail.

We visited Bodie ghost town on our way to Mammoth lakes. Felt like the 3 miles dirt road was a perfect start to the ghost town experience. We bought Bodie ghost town booklet for $2 at the entry. It had some interesting facts about the place, along with maps about the different buildings that are currently present. It was nice little walk around the town. Wear comfortable shoes and tracks or carry extra set of pants, as pants can get dirty walking in those dusty roads..

It is amazing that this ghost town has been preserved although according to the literature, only 5% of the buildings are still standing. Somehow, some of the buildings have been refurbished as some of the buildings look kind of 'new'. The bumpy ride along the dirt road adds character to the oldness. Not good for cars. Better to take a four-wheel drive...but it is just 3 miles of dirt road. If you drive slowly, the car will be fine.

After enjoying the nature in Yosemite, Bodie turned out to be a welcomed stop. The last three miles of our drive to the town was unpaved and full of potholes. But other than that, the visit was very enjoyable. We spent about 3 hours there, strolling around the town, peering into various houses, and taking photos. Admission was $7 a person.
