The views are incredible. I highly recommend riding this route, just for the fun of it. We started in San Diego and stopped in Anaheim for a nice 2 hour trip. Make sure when choosing a seat, you go to the second floor, oceanside, and face forward for the best experience.

Took the train from Fullerton to San Diego. The 6:45AM train from Fullerton was old and falling apart. The seats were dirty and the windows dirty. However, it doesn't take away from the magnificent views of the ocean enroute to San Diego. Unfortunately, it was a dark, cloudy day when I went so no sunrise to enhance the view, but it was still amazing. I can't help but think how lucky those people are that live on that coast to have those views everyday. The train from San Diego was a little bit more newer and brighter. The weather for the ride back to Fullerton didn't really improve, but the views were just as amazing on the way back to the North. Make sure to pick the right side of the train Southbound and the left side Northbound, and try to get a window seat.

There's food on the train, but it's probably better if you just bring your own snacks. There's really nothing for stores either in the Fullerton station or the Santa Fe depot in San Diego.

If you are staying in San Diego for a few days or if you are just taking a day trip, this ride is worth it.

We took the train from LA a Union station to San Diego and once the train cleared the L.A. City limits the view improved and at times we could not believe how close the train runs to the waters edge in a couple of places. The two hors 45 mins passed quickly in comfortable seating upstairs in simply huge carriages - nothing like this in Australia.

I took the pacific surfliner from San Diego (Santa Fe) to LA (Union) on Mar 3rd and enjoyed its great view of the seaside.
Originally, I reserved the seats of Mar 1st at the end of last year but I got an email in Feb telling me that "the train is affected" and found that all the trains were cancelled and replaced by bus transportation between Santa Fe and some inland station near LA on the first 3 Saturdays and Sundays in Mar this year. So I had to change the date to enjoy the seaside view.

The business class seats are very comfortable and clean. We checked in our big baggage at Santa Fe station 45 min. before the departure and found them at Union Station baggage claim
very quickly. They might bring them on earlier train.

We caught the train in Anaheim, as we had just done Disneyland. The journey was going to be 2 hours to San Diego. We booked Business and sat in the top part of the train. Glass of wine and a selection of packet crisps, nice gesture. A very entertaining trip down by the crew making comments on all the stops. Great views, we sat left going backwards- Ocean view or you sit right going forward-Ocean view. We are taking the train back to Los Angeles, so sitting on the left going forward. Remember.
