“Number 1! The pacific highway in an RV.”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

We travelled from San Francisco to LA and from LA to San Diego with an RV of 33 feet.
The part from SF to LA was worth every minute spent on the road, very scenic! Go slow and easy and stop for the waterfalls. Prebook the very nice camping sites at the state parks. Have a break, or stay longer in the Beautiful city of Monterey. In Monterey one shall not missout on a walk on the pier where you can Watch the sea lions. Along the coast you can spot elephant seals, especially close to the Hearst castle. We had a stop in the camping site state park close to San Simeon South of the Hearst castle, a very nice site and incredible low prices, we watched the humming birds at the camp site. The facilities are poor they try to save on water so there are only chemical toilets no showers, still a very Beautiful Place. The scenery along the road is incredible, take your time!
South of LA we stopped for one night in Crystal cove state park, a nice park Close to a very nice beach, also here there are lots of wildlife!
In San Diego we can recommend the KOA RV park wj´hich is really nice. However if you want to go to the nicest beach in the San Diego area go to the RV park on Coronado Island right on the Beach, pre-book!

“A must do”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Breath taking views and a must to see. I would recommend the trip from San Fran to LA as you are on the right side for passengers to take pictures of the scenery and make stops at the vista points easily. I would recommend breaking up the trip with a night in Monterey and then San Luis Obispo - stay at a wonderful little B&B called the Hermitage in SLO. I would also recommend taking highway 101 from San Luis as you will see plenty of scenery from this highway. This will make the drive a better length of time. Take time to see cannery row at Monterey, take the 17 mile drive, drive down scenic drive in Carmel by the Sea, stop at Big Sur for lunch but not at the first stop as there is a great little café just past the initial eating stop. Take a tour at Hearst castle, only do a 45 minute tour, and experience a dune buggy ride on Pismo beach- exhilarating. If you want a shopping experience stop at the premium outlets at Camarillo don't bother with Vegas outlet shopping. Traffic a little heaving from Santa Barbara on a summer sunday afternoon but still only took 4 hours from Pismo beach to LAX on highway 101.

“Take your time”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Take your time. This is not your standard highway. Parts of it are right on the coast, or cliffs overlooking the coast, so do obey the speed limits. It’s not only smart, but gives you more time to take in the spectacular views that appear pretty regularly. If your travel plans allow it, plan on multiple stops just for the views, and take a breather from the driving.

“Hwy 1 -South of Monterey, Ca”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

After leaving Monterey, we took the Southern route home on Hwy 1. The scenery along this route was awesome. We traveled through Big Sur and ended up in San Simeon. We were able to see some elephant seals sleeping on the sand in San Simeon. The drive was beautiful with gorgeous vistas, trees & foliage, plus seeing (from the road) the waterfall at Julia Pfeiffer State Park.
