If you want to feel what nature look like visit the june lake in late september to late october. The place is full of color and calm weather during this time of the year. there are around 4 loops where you can boat or do fishing and relax. You will never forget what the beauty looks like at this area.

I was told by a friend to make sure that I visited the June Lake Loop on our way to Mammoth and I am so thankful that I did. The water at all three lakes were clear, clean and blue! My daughter and I were stunned. I took the most AMAZING photos of the water/hills/bird.

Grant Lake - our favorite especially since we love to skip rocks.
Silver Lake - least favorite. Silver lake is mostly for fishermen. But, the little local store there was a lifesaver since we didn't bring much food with us.
June Lake - overall the best for swimming and wading. The beach there is free to go to, animal friendly and the kids could touch the ground even at 20 feet from shore. There also are a few good rocks for the kids to swim out to and jump off of.

We did not stay overnight at any of the lakes, but if we go back, we will camp at June Lake. We drove through a few different campgrounds and they appeared to be very clean.

The south entrance to the June Lake Loop is off Hwy 395 in the Eastern Sierras. The first lake is the beautiful turquoise June Lake. There is a use fee for the beach. We have seen everything from pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes, small motor boats, fly fisherman in tubes, and paddle boards. There are several stores at June lake to meet your needs needs. Next lake is Gull lake, but watch closely for the same signage on the right side of road just past the pizza joint. It has a free launch administered through Inyo County..they ask you to register your vessel. This lake is much smaller than other 3 lakes, and very picturesque. They have a nice seating area with tables to eat your lunch, and ducks to entertain the kids. Fishing is fair from the shore. Next lake is Silver Lake. Take the first parking area and there is a great place to launch your kayak..and a bathroom! Continue on , and you reach the largest stretch of the lake. Here the boats pull water toys, and skis. There are very few trees here. Last lake is Grant. This is probably the largest lake, and no trees. We see a lot of shore fishing. If you approach the June Lake Loop from the north, just reverse the names of the lakes. A beautiful day hike from the north loop is Parker Lake Trail. It is well signed. It is a tough push up the hill for 30 minutes, and the last hour is a walk in the park. You are well rewarded for your efforts with easy access to Parker Creek in several areas, and then the beautiful alpine Parker lake. We took hike today, and please note even though it looks like there is a trail around the lake, there isn't! You continue to climb away from the lake, and it doesn't appear to be an easy trail around the lake. You have a fantastic view of a triple fall spilling over the high up cirque. There are native browns in the lake.

Just discovered the beautiful sandy beach at June and took our dog to the adjacent dog beach and had a blast. Didn't know (even after all these years) that June had such a nice beach for swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking -- June's not just for fishermen! :o) Crystal clear blue water and beautiful scenery. What more could you want?!! Gorgeous!

Stayed in the June Lake Campground before heading into yosemite village. Nice, right on the water. Saw a raccoon family, deer, and a million ducks. Fishing was so so, but since I was with the wife I didn't try to hard. Scenery was beautiful on the entire loop with the changing colors. Took a few pictures of the leaves surrounding the lake. Needless to say, the wife is ready to go back and has had a picture of silver lake as her screen saver on her phone since we got back. Great vacation for couples or a fishing trip with the guys.
