island itself is nice, pretty much it. snorkeling was bad, water is murky, some jelly fish, no corals, and poor snorkeling equipment given ( we brought our own but for the other people that use the one provided), never given safety speech regarding location of life vest (was there any?)

This is a great excursion if you are in the Holguin area. One hour coach trip through the Cuban countryside which allows you to see some of the real Cuba away from the hotels. The catamaran gives you the chance to look at the pristine coast line, relax and take in the sun and sea. The snorkelling is great and you will see a lot of fish. On the island ignore the reps who tell you the safari is dangerous. In our opinion it is not and you will see up close, girafe, zebra, anteplope, water buffalo, ostrich and more. The trip in the second world war jeep is worth it on its own and the guide you get kind, patient and charming. The food at lunch on the island is wonderful authentic cuban - wonderfiul simple flavours and the chef a charm - you may even get to eat buffalo or antelope. There are pristine deserted beaches to swim from and the sea is crystal clear - you feel like Robinson Crusoe. A charming wonderful day we will never forget. So thank you to the guide and the staff on the island.

A lovely day trip, the coach ride gives some great views of the Holguin province countryside, the catamaran trip is lovely, particularly if the crew put the sails up for the return. The snorkelling is fine but if you are a keen snorkeller take your own gear - the gear they provide is ok but my snorkel let in a small amount of water. The food is good, it isn't often you get a chance to eat water buffalo in England! The beaches on the island are small but very pretty but with your free time on the island I recommend the jeep safari - there is plenty of wildlife to see and the off-roading is a hoot. In peak times the "jeep" is actually a ZIL 131 6x6 Russian army truck, on quiet days you ride in a UAZ 469 Russian 4x4. Either way it is great fun. We've done this trip three times now and still aren't bored with it. One word of advice, though - take insect repellant and spray yourself after the snorkelling and before you land on the island. There are sand flies which bite and though the bites aren't bad they itch for a couple of hours. All in all this trip is well worth the money.

Arranged with Thomson / First Choice to visit island by Catamaran (with all inclusive bar!). The island was peaceful, picturesque, excellent snorkelling site and great buffet lunch laid on by local chef!
