We stayed March 4 to 11. 2014. The first thing Nolitours Plus is NOT Blau Plus.... Make sure you book Blau Plus. The new part is alot of walking (but I like that) It's worth it!!!
The accommodations are good, rooms are new, clean, beds are good. Pillows nice, blankets. Bathrooms have just showers no tub. Everythings clean, nicely layed out, just no face cloths. Fridge is stocked with beer (mayabe- I didnt like it) 1 lg water and 2 pop.
The FOOD is GOOD!! Yep, its good. I have been to cuba 4 times...and this place has good food. The pizza is AMAZING. the Lobster dinner- WOW. The buffet has lots of variety, lots of food and it tastes good. The al carts, really good we did Italian, spanish, gourmet, lobster dinner, and Nolitour plus BBQ- the BBQ was just like the buffet. We couldn't do the Cuban, it wasnt open on the only day we had open. ( We got to do them, because we upgraded after we got there)
The VIP Bar has the BEST drinks!!! BUT was FULL of kids... we called it the day care!! They shouldnt be aloud in the bar!!! Most of the time more kids then adults.
The Plus pool is very nice, lots of people without the gold band.
We are BEACH people... you may want water shoes. The beach is very nice, a little rocky, AMAZING snorkeling!! Take your own gear...so worth it!! And an underwater camera. The sand fine, clean...lots of shade. Lots of chairs, and the beach is clean...beautiful walk from end to end.
We did 2 tours- Island Paradise and Inside Cuba...Both are worth the money, relaxing and beautiful. I really enjoyed inside cuba. That was were we had our best meal!! The picture from that trip- the old train ride, the top of the hotel in town, lots of information on the area, the people, we saw 2 cigar factories, one we could take pics ...really nice!
The Blau Costa Verta is very nice, relaxing, clean... We are happy with our vacation. I wouldnt use Noliturs... because we thought we had the plus, and the meal that come with it was nothing special... but I WOULD recommene this place! Its very good! You will have a great holiday!

Room Tip: We were in building 37, its alot of walking, but quiet until someone lets there kids play mini stick...

Just returned on the 21March14 and this was my 2nd stay at the Blau Costa Verde hotel, but this time I stayed in the newly added ''Plus'' area that you pay more and that you book almost as if it's a separate hotel with a new name.
The new accommodation is nice and there are quiet areas, but they are far from the hotels main eating, entertainment and other services. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone that is elderly or with mobility issues. It would be very difficult for an elderly person to walk many of the distances now required from the ''new'' areas.
Another problem is that the hotel's resources are now stretched to the limit. By resources I am speaking about their staff, the public areas, the pool area, the restaurants, and the beach facilities. There is double the amount of people at this dual hotel, and now there are constant lineups in the eating areas and it's very difficult to get a decent place on the beach or pool areas unless you get up at 7am and head out to pick up your beach chair and place it in the area you want and then ''reserve'' it by leaving a personal article on the chair until you finish breakfast and make your way to the pool or beach.
The beach area is now way too crowded and the coral and sea life is dying in areas that used to be so good for snorkelling.
At the Pool area that is designated for the ''Plus'' guests, there are signs when entering the pool area to say that only guest of Blau Costa Verde Plus are allowed to use the pool, but there is absolutely no one that prevents other guests from the non-plus section, and so the very few umbrellas and beach chairs are taken by the non-plus people! So this exclusive pool use is really only a lie.
The old pool area of the main hotel area is looking very very tired and in badly need of upgrading. The pool chairs are made of some type of canvas material and are disgustingly stained from years of use and your fearful of catching something when using them.
The staff are overall very good, but they are now serving double the amount of people and still trying to smile and treat people well. They are overworked and I heard their complaints.
It is unlikely that I will stay at this resort again. It is now too crowded in my opinion.

Room Tip: Rooms in the ''Plus'' section are new and quiet, but a long ways from eating and ent...

Stayed for a week from March 9 - 16. Travelled with Hola Tours - they had much better flight times than anyone else (and included free Catamaran tour). Everything went smoothly from beginning to end. Drive from airport was about an hour but was a comfy bus and was very scenic. We didn't get an upgraded room and were glad we didn't. Our room was just fine. We were in building 6 looking out back with a beautiful view of the ocean and it was very quiet. Could hear people in the halls in the morning but not too early. Yes we had older amenities but no big deal. The older TV and tub didn't affect our fun. Beds were hard though. I didn't mind but hubby did. Depends on your liking. 2 3/4s put together. Room size was the same as the Plus room we saw. Some Plus rooms are a LONG way from everything. We had it all at the bottom of the stairs. There was construction near some Plus rooms too. Plus rooms had extra A La Cartes but we just asked at the restaurants in the afternoon and got in. Beautiful grounds, pool and beach. Saw lots of fish snorkeling. Unlike Veradero, you don't see hotel after hotel. Very lush hilly landscape with Royal Palms everywhere. Food was OK, always managed to find something. Italian A La Carte was very good. Disco was very fun every night. Evening entertainment was quite good - talented dancers. Small on-site market and Guadalavaca(?) market is about 10 min. drive. Good for an hour or so and nice beach. Service at the bars could be slow with some servers, to the point of feeling ignored but it was very busy and didn't happen too often. Jeep tour was a lot of fun. Holguin City was very busy with lots of twisty, turny, narrow streets. Some shopping but didn't spend much time there. Met lots of fun, easy going people. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Our non-Plus room was in building 6 looking out back, not over pool so was quiet. Great location nea...

We booked this trip through Nolitours for the last week of Feb.We paid extra for the Noliplus section because they advertised the rooms were in the best part of the hotel. We stayed on the same floor we had stayed on 5 years earlier. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel.Delivery trucks were arriving early in the morning waking us up.The best section in the hotel, what a joke.We thought we would be in the new section as did many other Noliplus guests. We approached our Noliplus rep Henri, who informed us we would have to pay 10 CUC pesos per person each night to move to the new section After much debate we asked to go to the Playa Costa. The resort next to us.We were told it would cost 900 CUC.Henri was useless. Finally Noemi the hotel sales manager and another Nolitours rep Yanelle came to an agreement and we were moved to the new section. Thanks ladies, we appreciated your help.Beware of Nolitours false advertising, there was no private check in and we were not made aware of a concierge service or free massage If you want to stay in the new section book Blau plus.A special thanks to Yili, who showed great patience in showing us different rooms in the new section prior to our move.

We had a wonderful room overlooking the plus pool. The room was large with an abundance of storage space, jacuzzi tub, nice shower, free safe, king bed and coffee maker. There is no creamer available, bring some if you need it.We bought some milk from the store and put in the fridge. There is a nice variety of toiletries in the bathroom. Our fridge was restocked daily with one large bottle of water and two cans of pop and beer.We were in building 16.Our housekeeper, unfortunately I can't remember her name did a great job cleaning our room and left awesome towel figures on our bed.

The food was quite good. The food in Cuba has certainly improved since our first visit 9 years ago.We did 4 a la cartes. Spanish,Italian.Cuban and Gourmet. They were all good with lobster at the Gourmet our favorite. The plus section has their own buffet and two a la cartes only available to Blau plus guests. The buffet was great for breakfast and lunch because it was not as busy as the main buffet. The Italian restaurant is open for lunch, If you like thin crust pizza or panzerotti check it out. As stated in previous reviews the service was not the best.We like to give a shout out to the best servers but none wore name tags.Rosi at the buffet was the best we had all week. They are understaffed and too many servers have a very lackadaisical approach. The pool was large with waiter service and many shady areas, if you arrived early enough. The pool was cold, but warmed up as the week progressed. Apparently it rained quite a bit during the previous two weeks. We are not beach people, however it seemed large with lot's of shade and busier than the pool area.

We didn't do any tours, having done quite a few in our previous Cuban trips. We have been to Cuba 11 times and we would recommend this resort. It was wonderful sitting in a bar with my fellow Canadians in Cuba at 7AM watching Canada win the Olympic Gold in hockey.Canadians were walking around the pool and beach in their Team Canada hockey jersey's in 30 degree weather. What an awesome sight

We will definitely return, however not with Nolitours

Room Tip: Blau plus is on the new side.If you have trouble walking stay in the old section which is close to e...

3rd trip into Cuba so our expectations wrt food were very realistic. we brought our own shampoo/conditioners/soaps as quality in Cuba tends to be low. the resort has an amazing beach with snorkeling. you can walk a good 20-30m into the sea and be in neck deep clear water. food is OK by Cuba standard. buffet restaurant has excellent fresh grilled meat/chicken/fish daily. the veggies/salad tend to be of low quality. we loved the papaya and guava. the resort is huge and some of the units are quite far from the lobby/central area and the beach. if you have mobility issues, this is not the best place to be. some staff are responsive, some don't get the concept of customer service.
the one negative I found was hotel staff charging $15 for a 4 hr extension for checkout. I arrived on Air Canada about 9 pm on Friday, and got to the resort around 11. that flight comes in every single week. the staff know this and that pax will depart late at night. it should not be a problem letting people checkout late.

Room Tip: ask for a room close to the central area.

I always read Trip Advisor reviews before I travel & book a holiday. I would like to recommend this hotel.in Holguin. My daughter & I went for her reading week Feb 15-23/14. We upgraded to the Plus section for only $10 each a day. You must! You must! You must upgrade to Plus! We will return to same resort. The rooms were modern & very clean. Showers, not tubs. Lovely pool area for Plus sections members only. Amazing VIP bar for Plus section as well. We loved the fancy drinks especially Spanish Coffee. Friendly, helpful staff on entire resort. Beaches were so beautiful, make sure you bring water shoes as there is coral. Food was great as well, we enjoyed our morning omelettes. We did 5 nights a la carte restaurants, I would say my favorites were the Gourmet & Italian. Entertainment was exceptional, we enjoyed the synchronized swimmers & the nightly disco. One thing we would bring next time is a water bottle to hold drinks in at beach instead of those little plastic cups. Amazing stay! Thanks to all the staff at Blau Costa Verde ;)

Room Tip: section 18 was were we stayed close to VIP pool area. excellent

Second time in Cuba and thought I would try the `other end` of the island having spent two weeks in Varadero in 2012. Arrived with the minimal expectations based on my usual balanced view of the reviews I had read before hand. Happy to accept that expectations are to be tempered in certain parts of the world due to limited resources. Following being taken to room initially decided to upgrade as it was a bit rough and ready and to be honest I thought it smelled of `something` as you walked in. Went to the desk and was told that there were no rooms available to upgrade to at that time but come back in the morning. (Never did! Just settled in and spent a couple of weeks revelling in the fact I was away on a sun-soaked island away from the rain and misery that had been the winter in the UK).

The `Minuses`
Evidently just my thing but I was not hugely impressed with the information you were given on arrival, spent days trying to figure out what was open to eat and when as there was not a map or timetable even left in the rooms as I have kind of come to rely on as a basic orientation guide that has been in all the hotels I have stayed in throughout the Europe, Africa or the Caribbean.
When you got in the buffet in particular it just seemed poorly set out as it was a scrum to get to the evidently preferred parts of the service (manners cost nothing!), substantial queues a par for the course. When you sat and ate however there were plenty of smiling helpful faces offering drinks etc.
Due to this being a last minute `escape` spent most of my time reading in the bar with varying response to need for service, mostly good and friendly though. (still need to send Alex stuff for his kids to play on computer!)
The beach...staying in hotels on the beach, or near to the beach, or with a short walk to the beach....this is a side on to the beach which is then split with several other hotels that have the majority of the beach directly accessed by them! (also which has very limited sand and a reef fifteen feet out that limits your ability to swim...)
Hotel evidently has grown over time meaning it seemed to be disjointed and unable to sustain its numbers comfortably with its facilities and restaurants, as I said there just seemed to be a lot of people `waiting` to be served everywhere.

The `pluses`,
Staff almost invariably willing to help and smiling. The weather, apart from the first few days, scorching hot. The countryside and the people, as always travel is an education and this trip was different to the other in Cuba as it seemed to show a different side to the nation.
Left the hotel on a few occasions, as is a must, and gained (despite the evident obsessions with the insulated drinks cups/mugs/buckets!) a newly found admiration for Canadian travellers. Went on a jeep safari, which was really great due to the input of the guide but made enjoyable by the company of a Canadian couple with whom I shared a jeep who were good humoured, friendly and joy to be with. Also went on the protracted trip to Santiago, again made a pleasure by ending up in the company of two Canadian young women who again ended up venturing around Santiago with and were an absolute pleasure to spend time with on a `cultural adventure`.
So.... Canada...cheers to your inhabitants, you`re ok!

The verdict on the Blau however, enjoyed the break from the weather at home but.... wont be sending friends there or advising others to visit, the rooms, the beach, the service and the general feel of the hotels elsewhere have you beat unfortunately.... Back to the DR or to Costa Rica next I think....
