We went as a family of four, 4 yr old, 13 yr old and 2 adults on the 4th December 2012 for 2 weeks, in all the years of travelling I must say this was the best holiday I have ever had. Cuba is a beautiful place not in the least spoilt in any way by large commercial hotels. If ever you want a relaxing holiday with the kids this is the place to go. We had a family suite, kids had their own room, ensuite bathroom, hairdryer, toiletries, etc, separate bathroom for the kids, kitchen area, dining area and lounge. 2 sun terraces. As a fussy eater I must say the food was excellent a variety of choices. Staff were extremely friendly and courteous, made a lot of friends and will definately keep in touch. A lot of Canadians go to Cuba as it is just a short flight, but again they are all lovely people, a nice change to meet polite foreigners instead of the rude Polish and Russians we met in Egypt (never again will I go there). This is a place I will definately travel to again in the new Year. The beaches are clean, again lots to do without being intruded upon. If anyone writes a bad review about this place, they must be crazy, I am so fussy about where I stay and the cleanliness of room, this gets full marks from us and thank you staff at Playa Costa Verde you are doing an excellent job. Keep it up.

Room Tip: Upon your exit from Cuba you have to pay 25 pesos per person which our travel agent never told us (Thomsons)!! works out for a family of four about £75 -

We came earlier than check in time and were assigned rooms quickly and left our suitcases in Luggage Room (on the right side of the reception) Got nice lunch at the buffet and moved into our rooms. We emailed the hotel in advance and asked rooms to be in the area close to the beach and next to each other. We got what we asked for. Two of our 4 rooms (second floor) had ocean views. Buffet had nice cooking stations where we enjoyed food being cooked in front of us: loved variety of fish and seafood. There was always a choice of food as well as a la carte restaunrants available. We had eleven people in our party including six kids and always found food to please everybody. Room was large and very clean. No issues with housekeeping, water daily replenished. Waiters were very attentive and we left one peso (close to $1) per meal per family. No Cubans asked for pesos or begged for clothing at the beach, Nice and quiet resort. We went for two sightseeing tourc and loved them: farm, horseback riding, fishing, swim with dolphins. Arranged them through Joel who works for the local nature park and can be reached by phone from the lobby, his number is 005352709018. His prices are better than those of reps at the hotel and he is very attentive to your requests. We saw positive comments about him at Tripadvisor and were happy when we saw him at the hotel. Mosquitos and sand flyes exist on the beach so please take Off or something to deal with them which is usual at Carribbean countries. Weather was very warm as well as the ocean. We researved VIP lounge on the way back at Holguin airport for CUC 25 per person and highly recommend it. A rep from the airport was assigned to us and took us to customs and check in on priority service without waiting in line in the crowded airport. VIP lounge is spacious and has all inclusive drinks, chips and sandwiches with ham and cheese. Great option to avoid the crowd. We are happy to recommend the hotel and their services

Room Tip: Second floor rooms

We stayed here Nov 28th 2012 for two weeks. The hotel is small & friendly with everything within easy walking distance. Beach small but nice and sandy and continues in front of two other hotels for about a mile. The staff are really good and nothing is too much trouble. I would advise that you ask for an ocean view room which are superior to the ones overlooking the front of the hotel. We complained about our room upon arrival (we found it unacceptable) and we were moved to an ocean view room at no extra charge. This room had a king size bed, soft pillows and the mattress was very comfy. The finish in the room was much better and the bathroom was also nicer.
If you like meat you will have no complaints about the food with the exception that it does not stay hot for long. So get down to the buffet early. I think when they finish the new restaurant; this may not be an issue. They make great bread and desserts. Vegetarians will find it hard going but the chef is willing to listen. The Italian restaurant was lovely and we ate there as many times as we liked when we explained we were vegetarians. We met a fantastic, young man called Norge who worked mostly in the Italian restaurant and nothing was too much trouble for him. We have even kept in touch via email since we have been home. His work ethic and attitude was admirable. I must say that the staff in this hotel were among the best I have ever met. The building work is extensive as they are building 400 rooms, restaurants and pools. We only heard a jack hammer once so we can’t say noise was a problem. If you go in mosquito season take plenty of repellent, creams and antihistamines. Cuban mosquitoes are ferocious and even bit my husband who never usually gets bitten. There is a nurse on site who will give you an injection for 5 pesos if it gets bad (as it did for me). They don’t go through your insurance, so no excess to pay. Watch you are not over in weight on your luggage when you go home as the Cubans are hot on that and will charge you £17 for every kilo you are overweight. Trips range from £40 per person upwards but we didn’t do any. We decided to take a two hour horse and coach ride with a local guy for £20 and it was brilliant. We saw some real life Cuba even visiting someone’s farm house where we were made to feel very welcome! We also took a taxi ride in a 50’s car to a local market which cost us 35 cuc (£23). Cheaper than the trips and took up less of our precious time. All in all an interesting holiday. When the building work is complete and the other rooms have been renovated, this complex will be extremely good. Hotel entertainment was brilliant.
