This is the 2nd time we've been here and we came this time to celebrate our 25 th wedding anniversary and again it was everything we expected and more. Couldn't wait to get there after our horrible stay in Havana. Our room was a refurbished one and was perfect. The pool is being sorted next few weeks but it didn't really bother us anyway. Food hot and plenty of choice ,did a couple of restaurants had lobster each time and it was really yummy..as returning guests got a special meal it was quite sweet and nice to been thanked . We did a bird watching walk it was brill really enjoyed it saw an owl ,hummingbirds and lots of lovely other birds and critters,.we have had a heart put out near swimming pool celebrating our anniversary made by one of ladies husbands,it's really sweet. George was fab bar man at pool and Manuel and raymondo were attentive at the evening at main bar lovely blokes. We were amazed that even the younger couples early 20;s said they would come back and how much they'd enjoyed it. We will be back and we won't leave it another 5years this time!! I just want to say you all should be proud of yourselves and this lovely hotel that you all make so special xx

Room Tip: We were in block 34 and had regular vistors ( crabs) even though we were upstairs and we loved it ,n...

Hubby and I spent one week at this resort and had a wonderful time. We have been to many all-inclusive resorts and can honestly say this was one of our favorite stays.

The staff were fantastic. Welcoming and friendly, everyone from our breakfast waitress to the bartenders to the cleaning staff had a smile and a "Hola" for us.

The food was excellent. We were warned about food quality in Cuba, but could not find anything to complain about. We got reservations to three of the four a la carte restaurants and each had their own flair. Even the Teppanyaki (which isn't my favorite) was good. The buffet was great, lots of choice and some special extras like a fresh made-to-order salad chef for dinner and a smoothie bar for breakfast. Note to the men that long pants are required at all dinner venues including at the buffet.

The room was spacious and clean. Fridge stocked daily with beer and pop. Two chairs and a coffee table, TV and radio which we didn't use. The bed was too hard for both myself and hubby's liking, so not the greatest sleep but wouldn't stop us from returning. We went for the oceanview bungalow with outdoor shower (there's a second shower in the tub inside as well). I hate bugs so was a bit skeptical about showering outside, but no creepy crawlies that I could find while using the shower. A couple of adirondack chairs out on the patio rounded out the amenities. It was so nice to sit out and watch the sun set over the ocean sipping a beer on our private patio. A note though, that it is not ocean front but ocean view, as there is about 200 feet of grass and trees between the bungalow and the water. We also had some of the local wild life visit our patio. Crabs, herons, woodpeckers and the local "Jutia", which is like an oversized groundhog, all spotted from the deck. We are definitely nature lovers so it was nice to see both manicured grounds and some wilder areas for wildlife to abound.

We also appreciated the fact that scuba diving is included. There is no dive operator on site, but the bus ride over to the Blau is only 15 min. and left the front lobby at 8:15 every morning. Diving was nice, lots of coral and small reef fish. The only down-side to the operation over at the Blau is that there is no dock so you have to put on your gear, go down a ladder and swim out to the boat. Bit of a pain but otherwise a pretty good dive operation.

Other services that we took advantage of was the Spa (excellent) and the bird watching tour on Thursday mornings with Carlos (free).

Bartenders were very generous with their pours and had a good selection to choose from. Very friendly and quick to learn what your favorite drink is. The only limitation for cocktails was the limited of selection of juice for mix. Orange, lime and pineapple (maybe) and that's about it unless you want soda pop as mix.

Overall a great stay. We appreciate the fact that this is an adults only resort, great food and amenities and we will definitely be back.

We tried a different Holiday venue in February/March this year, still in Cuba but at a place called Paradisus Rio De Oro, it was very nice but more expensive than the Melia Cayo Coco.
An excellent resort with quite a variety of guests, all adult and well behaved, many of them were British and we met many people from the area where we used to live in England. Believe it or not, two were from a village next to ours but now live in Andalusia, why they chose to visit Cuba in March I do not know and didn't dare ask.
We found all of the hotel staff to be vey helpfull and the food excellent. But be aware of the distances between venues, depending on your accommodation it can be quite a hike to the main part of the hotel and there ares no shady places to sit and rest, having said that there are a number of Chinese golf cart type buggies which zip around, a telephone call to the office gets you one in very short time, the drivers are the very best in curtesy and charm.
We visited the 'Royal' part of the complex but didn't see much advantage to it.

There was a down side for us, the last four days that we were there I developed Bronchial Pneumonia but was well looked after by the Resort doctor and nurses, they gave me a couple of magical intravenous injections plus pills various, with the threat that if I didn't improve then it would be a case of off to hospital.
I didn't like the idea of hospital in the great city of Holguin and needless to say, when the resort staff promised to give me a package of goodies and necessities to take with me in the ambulance, knowing the state of the roads in Cuba and that the package included toilet paper, I rapidly improved. The following two days were spent quietly before boarding the plane for home and to see my own doctor. He pronounced me fit and well and told me to see him again if things didn't keep improving, which they did.
Be prepared for the horrors of Holguin airport, the only real disapointment of th trip.

My husband & I enjoyed our stay at the resort, the staff, the service, the ambience & the food are all excellent. It's worth upgrading to Royal Service, feels like you are a real Royal. We celebrated our unforgettable 17th Wedding Anniversary, we will highly recommend this place to every couple who wants to have a vacation that feels like Home, where love, peace & relaxing ambience is the key to perfection!

Myself and my partner spent two weeks here in October 2013.

So many positives to mention. The staff from the moment you arrive make this place very special and cannot do enough for you - we gave them tips but they weren't expecting them like some resorts we've been to.

We didn't do the royal service but found the main part of the resort most relaxing - if you want royal service, pay for it. However, the main part is very good.

Within the main buffet restaurant there was always lots of choice, and for my partner, she loved the pasta station.

We tried the al a carte restaurants and would definitely recommend the French restaurant, even though they had no French red wine?!?

This is definitely a resort we would like to revisit, hopefully next year :)

My boyfriend and I went to PRDO of May, we didn't have a very pleasant flight (Thomas Cook) so the second we landed in Holguin we were super excited. We're greeted by lovely staff as soon as we got to the resort. As we arrived late afternoon we had a wonder around to explore the sights which were beautiful! Then went to dinner, unfortunately being a vegetarian this was my only issue with the whole holiday, the food wasn't labeled as well as I would have liked, some of the signs for food were in the wrong places which made me question whether other foods were vegetarian, and if I asked a member of staff a few of them were unsure what I meant, but I manages to find something to eat every night anyway, if you're not a vegetarian then there's a feast awaiting you, my boyfriend piled his food up at every opportunity! We also are at the Japenese restaurant, which was lovely so pretty and the staff were very friendly! Our room was clean, spacious and cool (we got a nice shaded room.) We spent the majority of our time at the pool, there were always sunbeds free, plenty of spots in the sun and shade, depending on what you prefer that day, obviously the best part of the pool was the bar! Where George was amazing, he really did look after us that week, re filling us up soon as we were empty, coming over to greet us and have a chat every morning, so big thanks to him! There was also great entertainment every night, whether you're into dancing or your music there's something going on every night to watch from the lobby bar. A big thank you to all the staff, we had the best week ever!

Dear alicewinds,
We truly appreciate your review and your comments, which are very welcome and always useful. We are in the process of changing the food labels of the buffet restaurant as they are not the most appropriate anymore, and we will have the new ones in the following days to be placed accordingly. Thank you very much!
