“Super surroundings, relaxing resort”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

We travelled here after a short stay in busy Havana and were not disappointed. This resort sits in lovely grounds and is surrounded by equally lovely countryside. Sitting at one end of a sandy bay with a lovely reef, which it shares with 2 other hotels owned by the same company, it is a true oasis. We spent our days on the beach, where the sun lounger attendant works hard to find you a patch of shade (more sun umbrellas and/or trees please) and where there is a very nice bar with terrace and a restaurant that overlooks the sea. There is a pool with large surround for lounging also, but we only used the bar there for a sundowner on our way back in the evening. There is a good pool restaurant also - good home baked pizzas and pastas!
At night we ate in all 4 a la carte restaurants, although the only one I would recommend is the Japanese one, where the food was great and the experience at the cook's table memorable. The other 3 were disappointing - we would rather have eaten in the buffet restaurant where the choice and quality of food was super. Breakfast is here also and again choices are huge and of great quality - only slight miff was the amount of birds flying around and nibbling at the food when they got the opportunity.
Entertainment in the evenings is of good quality - from synchronised swimming in the pool to dancing on stage - the youngsters showed great style and athleticism in the moves and lifts they executed.
If you like wildlife as we do then snorkel on the reef (take a roll or banana and feed the fish) or take a walk across the bridge and watch the egrets and turkey buzzards in the lagoon. We walked further one day to the next bay - there's a good path. At night walk around the grounds of the resort and see the land crabs, toads and the Jutia (large rodent like mammals) which abound if you have the patience to sit and wait.
Finally the rooms are either in 2 storey blocks, nicely spaced apart or bungalows overlooking lawns or scrub. Nicely furnished with a well stocked mini bar, a large bathroom and patio/balcony furniture they are kept spotless by staff who leave nice notes, flowers and sculpted towels! All the staff are lovely here and deserve any tips you want to give them - they work so so hard!
We had a great time and have nothing ill to say about the resort apart from the fact that we could find no designated no smoking areas, and for non smokers like us it was quite hard to get away from cigarette or cigar smoke. However, I'd recommend this resort anytime - go, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: All good, depends on your inclination.

I suppose the stars are for having the facilities which the hotel has, but the rooms need a refurb as does the pool which has lost some paint making it slippery on the bottom.
Food is plentiful but very average and service very poor in some.
Power cuts during the day are frequent and hot water is warm at best and cold at worst. The maids do make things out of towels to leave on your bed but more focus on cleaning would be desirable.
Some of the staff are rude but most are really helpful and friendly with the pool bar and cafe by far the best with a real happy crew who work hard to please.
The rooms are spacious but dated.
I have stayed in a lot worse but not claiming 5 stars.
If quality food is a part of your holiday, forget it but if you want to fill your boots and not to fussy this is for you.

Room Tip: My brother had a suite which was 2 apartments with a door knocked though so he got 2 bathrooms but n...

We appreciate your comments, which help us to improve our services each day more. We are truly sorry to know that you did not enjoy your stay with us; despite we are always working to provide our guests with the best service and give them as most relaxation and enjoyment as possible. I am glad to inform you that we are already making some renovations in our Junior Suites bathrooms as well as our swimming pool will be refurbished from July to August. Power cuts are not use to happen in our resort, but we do have some due to technical maintenance we were in the need to make. Anyways we always inform to our guests when any event of this kind happens as well as we give them our apologies for the inconveniences it may cause. We also have been making changes in our restaurants menus in order to offer our guests new and attractive choices of food.
We have discussed your review with the departments involved and we are looking into your comments. We hope you decide to give us a new opportunity to accomplish your expectations and make of your holidays a memorable experience.

As already mentioned, this is an aging but beautifully tended property with a caring and able staff who endeavour to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I felt very comfortable, for the most part, as a solo traveller. My purpose in choosing PRDO was to relax, unwind, and spend time in nature, sun, and quiet to help recover from recent health concerns. It was mostly ideal. It was not as quiet as I had hoped, due to day and evening activities, but it was a fine balance. I stayed in a Junior Deluxe bungalow on the lagoon side. Yes, there were wee ants and mosquitos from time to time, but that's to be expected in lush nature. Room malfunctions were addressed swiftly. The staff for the most part are just awesome: hardworking, lovely-natured, happy, helpful people. I am already planning a return visit if I can find a timeframe where the single supplement is not too onerous. The cost for solo travellers is considerably more than that of those who travel in pairs. That would be the biggest sole reason for me to choose a different sunny destination.

Room Tip: Probably any depending on your needs.

We stayed four times at the Paradisus: Twice at the main resort and twice at the Royal Service. The food and service were excellent on all occasions. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

We are planning to go back to the Paradisus in the near future. It has become our go-to destination for a worry-free sun destination.

Our many thanks to the staff and management for another wonderful stay at your resort.

Room Tip: The main resort (junior suite and junior suite de luxe) is 15 years old. Most of the rooms have been...

My husband and I stayed at Paradisus de Oro Resort & Spa from April 8-15 in the Royal Service. It was our first time to Cuba and won't be our last. The resort is kept immaculate by the gardening staff who worked very hard everyday with attention to detail. The butlers and bell boys could not do enough for us! Many thanks to Ray, Narsh, and Carlos!!

Thank you Edgar for arranging our dinner reservation for our group of eight at the Medditerranean restaurant. Greatly appreciated, especially when we were told they were at full capacity that evening.

Carlos, the new Food and Beverage Manager, hats off to you! The food was absolutely amazing! This young man works extremely hard making sure all of the guests at the resort are happy. He stopped us at least 4 times throughout our stay asking how our holiday was and how we enjoyed the food. Keep up the great work Carlos, you are certainly an asset to the Paradisus team!!

For all of you thinking about a trip to Cuba, look no farther. You will not be disappointed. We found there are many repeat visitors, and they will tell you this is the best resort on the island. As I said, we had never been to Cuba before and were very pleased from the resort to the service and friendly ness of the people and of course the food was fantastic!!

Room Tip: 8823 and 8624 have great ocean views without having to pay for an ocean view room.

First time to Cuba for me and my boyfriend, we stayed from 12th - 26th March 2014 and it was absolutely incredible. I would most definitely return and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else! Staff were amazing, very friendly, hardworking and happy people.
Our maid was exceptionally good. Very personal touches from her including a note and bottle of bubbly on my birthday left in the room.
Champagne and music on arrival. Food was brilliant despite being warned before hand not to expect too much. El Patio was my favourite restaurant.
Overall this was the best holiday I've had. Highly recommend to anyone.

We first stayed at PRDO in September 2011. We don't usually go anywhere twice, but we liked Cuba and this hotel so much we returned again in 2013. It won't be our last trip. We stayed in the main resort for our first trip, and in Royal Service for our second)

This is a beautiful, understated, quiet, relaxing place. If that's your sort of holiday, you'll love it here.

By far the best thing about this hotel is the staff. Everyone we met was genuinely happy to help, and if I could leave 7 stars for the staff I would. We tipped AFTER receiving great service and when we felt we wanted to, and I NEVER felt like I had to tip to receive good service.

The food was good, always beautifully presented and a good variety, and always served with a smile. I'm vegetarian and always had plenty of choices available.

Room are large and very clean. I'm looking forward to seeing the refurbished rooms when we go back.

The pool is large. It's being refurbished in July/ August this year, and again I'm looking forward to seeing this once the work has been completed.

The main beach is nice. The tides and the seasons move the sand around so sometimes there is more or less beach, and sometimes there is more of the coral shelf between the beach and the sea. If you walk down the beach a small way, there's easier access to the sea.

The RS beach is lovely - and I LOVED the fact the local families use it too. All beaches in Cuba are public, which is just the way it should be, I would hate it if locals were excluded for the convenience of tourists, it's their island and we are their guests.

The spa is beautiful and the therapists skilled - we had an amazing couples massage on our second trip.

Thanks to everyone at PRDO for your hospitality and for two amazing stays in Cuba. See you next time.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have extra windows and are lovely and light.
