This was our first trip to Cuba and after checking beach options we decided to go to Holguin and to the PRDO. Being our first trip without kids after a while we decided to spend a bit more and have selected the Royal Service. Great decision!!
The quality of the services, the staff (all are great!), the accommodations and food are oustanding. Royal Service is a high level service directed to adults who really like to have a great luxury time. If you are looking for partying, noisy pools and loud music do not go there.
If you are looking for a top service beach resort definitely this is the place.

Room Tip: Go to the rooms with ocean view if you can

Our second visit to Cuba first time to Varadero staying at Sandals which we enjoyed but it was eclipsed by the Paradisus. The place is extremely well maintained despite the tropical climate, with all staff smartly dressed.

We stayed in a corner room (block 37 midway between the pool and main bar/restaurant area). It is really worth asking for a corner room, not only do they seem larger than the 'inside' rooms, but have the advantage of a wrap around balcony and window to the side throwing further light into the bedroom and a small window in the bathroom which the inside rooms don't have. We were completely happy with our 'standard room' which was huge and comes complete with seating area and chaise longue. For those 'worried' about the bathrooms, don't be they are perfectly serviceable with shower over bath and loo/bidet in one section and wash basin in another area separated by a door - all were spotlessly clean. If you spend more than 30 minutes in the bathroom in a day is it worth worrying about it not being ultra modern? For those where this is an issue, the hotel has responded to criticism and has started refurbihsment of bathrooms one block at a time (in low season at least) with work having started on block 36 nearest the pool.

The pool itself is huge and split level, no deeper than about 1.5m at its deepest point. My wife particularly liked the floating beds. We had no trouble finding a sun bed but if you wanted a cabana or beds under a palm umbrella you will need to get up early and play the towel ritual. Plenty of shade is available via the trees for those like us who wander down after breakfast. We liked the 'veranda' area overlooking the beach which had a jacuzzi close by (only small) but emptied at least twice a day by the pool attendant who also was kept busy cleaning the inside of the pool by getting in himself with his brush!

We enjoyed all of the restaurants, the beach restaurant is fairly small so best to get there before the 1 o'clock rush, the pool restaurant was bigger and we never had any trouble finding a table there for lunch and the staff looked after us like royalty. We tried all of the a la cartes, the Cuban being my favourite, closely followed by El Patio (French) and Meditaranneo (Italian), the Japanese was fine, and yes its worth asking for a show table. The buffet restaurant had a colossal choice at breakfast and dinner with some fresh cooking stations.

The best part of the hotel is the staff all around the resort, from the gardeners (to my mind the gardens in the main hotel are superior to the Royal Service area) maids, restaurant and bar staff but special mention to the entertainment team and Aggi, Dani, Annabelle and Heidi in particular who kept us amused with a variety of activities and led the evening entertainment (which invariably had finished by 10.45pm).

A great holiday and will we go again, we certainly will!

This was our first trip to Cuba, and as a Travel Agent I thought it was time to check things out! We chose this Hotel because of the great reviews and also an associate had sent some clients here and knew people that had been to the resort and really enjoyed it. The check in was great, all I had to do was give them our name and our key card was ready, we were offered a cool wash cloth and they popped open a bottle of champagne for us. The Porter came and drove us to our room, the restaurants were all closed as it was just after 10:00 p.m. when we arrived , but the resort offers 24 hour room service and the Porter showed us how to order it.
The rooms are large and most of them have been renovated or are in the process, a few still need the bathrooms redone, but are clean and never an issue with hot water. We had a basic room and it had a nice view of the gardens and we could see the ocean off in the distance. We were offered an opportunity at check in to upgrade at an extra cost but I saw no need as I only planned to be sleeping in the room.
I was always told and had read in reviews of Cuban resorts that people don’t go to Cuba for the food, well that can’t be said of this resort, the food was wonderful. I’m sure I gained weight, especially with my ice cream and flambé fruit for dessert every night! Lobster in the A La Carte restaurants included not an extra charge as in most resorts. There was fresh Shrimp, Calamari, Tuna steak that could be grilled to order. Smoked salmon, fresh fruit (another thing I heard was rare in Cuba). I don’t think anyone could go hungry and this resort. There are 4 A La Carte Restaurants, Cuban, El Patio, Mediterranean, and Japanese. We chose to only do 2 (but you can do all 4, just make sure you book them right away) the Cuban which I had Lobster, (yum) and my husband had Chicken; it was great from the appetizers to dessert. We Also did the El Patio, which we both had the Pork Tenderloin and it was nice, a very elegant restaurant, here you can order for an extra cost, fancy wine.
The beach was soft powdery white sand and you could take a nice long walk down the beach, there are a few rocky patches to get into the ocean, but it is a great area to go snorkelling in, bring some banana or bread and you will be surrounded by fish! We had no issue getting a sun bed, there are attendants that will bring you one out and put it anywhere you’d like. There is a restaurant for lunch just above the beach, what a view to enjoy your lunch.
The pool area was great, again not a problem finding a sun bed, the pool bar was great, George and Luis Manuel will take great care of you. There is also a restaurant at the pool area, great pizza, burgers and fries, hotdogs, and ice cream!
Live Music in the evening, piano playing, violin playing, or Cuban bands a variety every night.
The Staff at this resort are all wonderful, always smiling and greeting you. Everyone was so helpful and the ladies in the Cuban restaurant...Thank you so much for making our Anniversary evening special. Our private dinner Cabana got down poured on but all we could do was laugh, we had a great time anyways. The cake that was made for us was delicious, banana cream.
The Spa here is a retreat in itself, if you book 2 treatments you get to spend the day there and your spouse can come along, it has a saltwater pool, Jacuzzis, a private beach area. The treatment rooms have glass walls overlooking the ocean, all you hear are the waves hitting the rocks and the birds singing, what a relaxing experience that was. I had a massage and facial, it was a great day.
Many of the people we spoke with were return clients of this hotel, with one couple this being the 15th time at this resort, and another couple was their 3rd time. I know we will be returning for sure.
As a Travel Agent I would feel confident sending clients here that want a nice quiet resort. It is perfect for a couple to get away. Not a party resort.
Just like to say Thanks to all at Paradisus Rio de Oro for making our 25th Anniversary Trip a wonderful Holiday, hope to see you all again soon!

Room Tip: The corner rooms did have a side window and a larger balcony.

This was our third visit to Prdo with 14 nights of pure utter relaxation and luxury indulgence. as with all the previous visits to Prdo the staff were friendly and always only too eager to assist you. Like many returning guests we were there to meet our Canadian friends who met at the Prdo three years ago, we were there expecting the standard of service to be maintained and I'm pleased to say that the hotel didn't disappoint.
I know there has been a few complaints about trying to get sun beds in areas where shade is required and people grabbing beds in the early hours of the morning and then not using them for long periods of the day, the Prdo management are aware of this and I feel sure they will deal with this problem as best as they can.
One small point to note is that in the evenings the hotel operates on a high dress code policy, with men expected to wear collared shirts, long trousers and no open toed shoes. Unfortunately it was sad to see clients deliberately lower the dress code standard.
Overall in our opinion still the best hotel in Cuba and we will be returning again in the future. If you visit this hotel, we can promise that you won't be disappointed .

its a bit late but I am a busy person! Paradisus was the most wonderful holiday I have ever had. the service was second to none. My wedding was perfect- even with Hurricane Isaac coming the next day! I worried like nobodies business about the wedding, flowers, hair etc. Please believe what everyone else says. Don't worry it'll be sorted when you get there. Mabel and Odalys did an amazing job. Decided to do my natural style so didn't visit the salon but mother in law did and it did loom very nice. But if you have fair hair take your own grips/ spray etc. Whatever you want to take (favours/table decorations etc) then just give them to the ladies and they sort it out for you. The photos were brilliant- very simple but the beauty of the place makes the photos.
In general: food was as most all inclusives are- same old, same old. Try all the ala carte's- but be aware only the Mediterranean has air con and in August it was HOT!
Day trip to Cayo Saetia was worth doing. If you get the chance then go and see the carnival in Holguin it was out of this world- what these people could do with tinfoil, generators and very little clothing. It was fantastic.
Definitely will return in the very near future- without the rest of the family! A little piece of paradise

We chose Paradisus Rio de Oro after considering a number of other hotels within Cuba. Hearing such great reviews both on line and from people we knew helped us make up or minds......Best decision we could of made. Our trip was wonderful!!! We arrived April 16th for one week. We chose to book a Royal Service room and we were so glad we did. Our butler Yunior was top notch, We loved the outdoor shower (Particularly the rainfall shower head!) The food was tasty fresh and we couldn't of asked for anything else. Cappuccino 10++++, semi private transport from the airport, check-in was super smooth. Beaches we quiet and clean... above all the service was off the charts, we were truly made to feel special throughout our stay.......so much so we are returning June 11th ...yup that's right two months since our last visit. While staying we met two couples that had been more than 10 times. There is no question why, We can't say enough good things about this hotel. I have stayed a a number of five star hotels and the service here is the best I have ever had....see you soon PRDO :)

I would go back anytime. We stayed in a section called "Royal Service" and it was worth it.
The service was very attentive. The room was great, big, clean, pretty, with everything you need. The private outdoor shower was a special experience. The food is excellent. The beaches are great. The location of this hotel is perfect with great views. I have nothing to complain about.

Room Tip: The rooms in the "Royal service" section are worth the additional price.
