This was our 4th visit to PRDO. The first time we came we got engaged in the wedding gazebo in 2010. Since then we fell in love with the hotel and always planned to get married here. This time we did get married on the beautiful spa beach on the 4th of April. The wedding planner Odalys was fantastic and all of our 25 party needs was catered for to the highest standard. We love coming back to this hotel because of the lovely grounds, beach and food are superb. However, the main reason we come back is due to the hard working and excellent staff ( amigos ). We have travelled all over the world and find Cuban people to be the most genuine and kind people. Big thanks to Janior ( Thomson Rep ) and Lorenzo ( General Manager ) for all your help and making our 3 weeks stay so memorable. Glad to say we will be returning for our honeymoon next month, cannot wait!!! See you all very soon kind regards Sam & Stella.

5th time back to PRDO,and on the whole a good holiday, once again. The staff as wonderful as ever (which is why so many of us return) food excellent, and weather gorgeous!Yes the bathrooms are a bit shabby but spotlessly clean so we can overlook the decor, and yes the sunbed situation is a pain, but we have never been on a package holiday that doesnt have this problem,so to all you moaners and complainers I would just say do as we did and GET UP EARLY,if you prefer an extra hour in bed fine, but dont expect to find a parasol!! So glad that we now have a designated no smoking area for us non smokers this is a huge plus. Just one tiny criticism, and that is the fact that we no longer have the flamenco guitarists in the Med Restaurant and the violinist was sorely missed in El Patio, the atmosphere just isnt the same,we mentioned this to other returners and they agreed completely.Anyway all in all a great hol and thank you to all the staff, with a special mention to the hardworking gardeners who ensure the walk to and from the pool and restaurants is a pleasurable experience !

Room Tip: upgrade to a bungalow

I have just returned from paradise spending a week at the resort and I have to say that this has been the best get away ever. Paradise sells it short! We stayed between 18th-25th April 2013.
We chose to stay here after visiting the travel agent (she could not recommend the resort enough, she had stayed here 7 years ago.) "You will love it!" were her words and we did.
From the welcome drink to the serenade upon departure every angle was covered. It was with a misty eye that we left, it felt like leaving your family behind. Everyone working there has a smile on their face, despite the relentless heat throughout the day! A credit to Lorenzo's management style, he was very much out and about every day on the resort. You can read other reviews on here about rooms and service, so I won't go into that (they all seem to be quite accurate) I read a few, but I will mention our special beach front cocktail dinner invitation on our final night there, two words-very romantic! and the food was fantastic!
I would highly recommend using the spa, we had a couples massage and full use of facilities for the whole day. If you haven't swam with dolphins do take advantage of the excursion to the local dolphin park. I managed to balance on top of two dolphin's as they pushed me up and out of the water in a skiing fashion!
Slightly outside of the resort I feel it worth a mention, I met a local fishing in the lagoon near by we got talking and he showed me what he had caught, a blue legged crab. He asked me for a present for his young boys back at home, not in a threatening way but humble, shampoo and soap, not money. I duly obliged and returned with an assortment of gifts, pens, soaps, drink and some money. He was ever so grateful and I wish him the best. It was a shame as I did not get to see the real Cuba outside the resort, but this small encounter has made me fall in love with the country and it's people no matter which walk of life they hail from. This gives me a reason to return and stay in the warmth for longer, 2 weeks should suffice.
Again I say with strong emotion, I felt saddened at leaving this Caribbean Paradise and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed holiday!

We are a couple in our early 30s who visited this resort from April 13 - 20, 2013. We stayed the first two days in the regular rooms, on the main/regular part of the resort. We then stayed the remaining 5 days in the Royal Service room/area.

Main Resort: Room was fine. Clean, but definitely dated, though this did not bother us. We had no issues with our room at all. The pool area was beautiful, but despite being at the pool shortly after 7AM on our first day, we were unable to locate sunbeds with any shade. Every sunbed had been reserved, and in most cases, the individuals reserving them did not return to the beds for hours and hours. We decided to go to the beach to try and find shade, but it was the same case down there, no shade left, just beds reserved with no bodies on them. We ended up sitting at the pool bar in the shade all day, which was fine but it would have been nice to be able to actually lay around and not worry about getting burned in the sun. The pool bar was lovely and George was a great guy to chat with. We ate at the restaurant by the pool and the food and service were both fantastic. Menu was quite extensive as well.

Royal Service: I cannot say enough good things about this. It is definitely worth the money for us (though it is very expensive, and I can understand not everyone being interested in that!). Our room was gorgeous, with a huge soaking tub, king bed, sitting area, flat screen TV, outdoor shower, double sinks, balcony with table/chairs and a sunbed, and a huge walk in closet. We were in one of the buildings farthest away from the lobby/pool area and it was still only about a 3 minute walk. The fridge is always stocked with water, pop, rum, wine, cava, whatever you want! Room service was impeccable and the menu was quite large as well. The pool area was so beautiful and there were always beds in the shade. People seem to reserve the beds less so in RS compared to the main resort. John at the pool bar was fantastic and always eager to serve up drinks or whatever we wanted. The restaurant in RS was amazing, and we ate here many nights, trying lots of different items on the menu, and we were never disappointed. We went to the beach one day for a little bit and despite it being beautiful, we aren't really beach people so we went back to the pool area. We were talking to another couple who said that they were at the beach one day and quite a few locals came to the beach and were blasting music and brought dogs with them who barked quite a bit. They found this to be annoying, but the beaches are public, so not much the resort can do about it.

SPA: We spent a day at the spa and got a couples massage over looking the ocean which was absolutely lovely. We both enjoyed our day at the spa, and how quiet and relaxing it was.

FOOD: Food was amazing. We only ate at the Japan and Royal Service a la cartes during our stay, and both were delicious.

I think that the staff in this resort are part of the charm. They are literally at your disposal for anything and everything you could possibly want! This is our 5th visit to Cuba, but first to this resort, and we are already looking to book our return trip. This time we will be booking our entire week in Royal Service!

We were looking for a resort where we could go for a vacation and to get married at the same time.
Travel agent suggested Paradisus Rio De Oro and mentioned that we would very much enjoy being there.
Now, we can tell, resort was just a paradise!
We decided to run away and get merried alone without any guests. Wedding coordinator did everything what she could possible do to make our wedding procedure relaxing and memorable. Even though we were alone, wedding coordinator and the whole staff made us feel as a part of their family.
The bars and the restaurants are nothing but top notch service. Variety of alcohol (domestic and export, cheap and expensive) and plenty of food. And what is the most important - all inclusive!
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
If you never been to Cuba or had a bad experience there, go to Paradisus Rio De Oro and you will have the best Caribbean vacation ever!

Room Tip: Try Junior Suite Deluxe - it has an outdoor shower and nice backyard with hammock. If your budget allows you - than definitely for with royal service! Extremely top notch service and gorgeous room.
